Thanks for all the great feedback guys, im gonna the switch over from ithemes to Wordfence today. hope all goes well.
when i tested word fence out and read about its features i thought to myself, all honesty iThemes is little more than a limit login attempt that doesn’t actually work (for me) very well. and really doesn’t do much more than block users from visiting your site based on certain conditions, that and detect file changes, which is ok. but scanning for viruses is what i’d expect in a security package for any software.
And so im psyched to get Wordfence up and running and utilising the crowd sourced anti-virus and malware protection. very cool.
Thanks a lot mountainguy2,
I really appreciate your thorough response. Thats interesting about the Falcon feature, ill be sure to keep that in mind.
thanks heaps for the heads up, ill do a robust backup as u say and do some testing.
hope you get your issues sorted out.
Good luck ??
In my opinion, considering it is a fact that this plugin works on a lot of sites with high and low amounts of memory. it is possible that a plugin, even this plugin, may not run optimally on every single server.
giving your feedback is great, because then devs can make their plugin work on more server setups. using a negative tone and making it seem like somehow the dev has done something wrong by you, for providing you with a free plugin, this kind of attitude just simply does not help anyone, especially the dev.
Finally, security is an important issue and since it is obvious by the lengthy threads and technical conversations, particularly here on the Wordfence support thread, it may be prudent and justifiable to upgrade ones server hardware or change hosting environments to one that is known to work with the plugins and software you use.
Considering the wordpress repository is mainly free, with no requirement to pay back, perhaps you should lower your sense of entitlement and raise your supportive attitude.
because quite frankly @barky81 you have been really rude.
Also it would be nice to know if there might be a problem when switching over, are there any special considerations i need to make when deactivating iThemes security and then activating Wordfence?
awesome thanks ??
wait no, my IP was in the whitelist too, that was probably why i wasnt banned.
sorry ?? great plugin
I should note that I can see the plugin activated log activity just fine, but no plugin updated activity.
nope no emails.

In reply to: Connection error on my wordpressYour website seems to be working fine now. how did you go?
if your still experiencing issues, id try upgrading manually and see if that works. be sure to backup first.

lol
Yes i can see how that would be annoying. I just read that Jetpacks blog post updater ‘subscriptions’ is a self-service opt in, meaning you cant access the list of emails.
try this guy out https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/sendpress/
Im starting to think WordPress does not notify registered users of new posts by default, we have to use a plugin to do that.
Had fun chatting lol come again heheh ??
No Worries any time.
you make a good point. I could be wrong, but after thinking about the same thing for a while, iv come to the conclusion that being a user is only for people who are actually publishing articles or installing plugins.
Using widgets and comments to allow visitors to interact with your website is a separate thing.
So you are right, no one should really be a user of a WordPress website, thats not the intended purpose. You are doing the right thing by using plugins like Jetpack to allow visitors to interact with your website. activating comments might be another option, and does not necessarily require a visitor to be logged in or even sign-up to your site, you could use facebook comments for example, or just allow anonymous comments.
Some websites go a step further and use BuddyPress to allow for users and interact with your site in a similar way to Facebook.
The bottom line, Creating users accounts in WordPress is primarily for publishing and administration. We use widgets, comments and plugins to notify our visitors of new posts and activity on the site.
updated: You can see how the two overlap a little. thats ok, dont use user accounts if u dont need them.
no update yet
hehe yeh its nice.
Ok so i have registered, i mentioned that. But i haven’t clicked subscribe on the subscribe to blog via email thingy on the front page, however since i registered as a user my email is automatically filled in ready for my to just click subscribe.
I’m waiting for an update to say u posted a test blog. If it doesnt come thru, we should do another test after i have clicked subscribe. maybe youll get a notification of me subscribing to the news letter.
So i just registered to your site using
https://www.angelagoodnight.com/sexblog/wp-login.php?action=register
so that works.
I see that you are using the Twenty Twelve theme, good choice. You could easily add a login and register widget to your sidebar.
- Go to Appearance > Widgets
- Find widget named ‘Meta – Login, RSS, & www.ads-software.com links.’
- Drag it over to where you have the widget ‘SUBSCRIBE TO BLOG VIA EMAIL’
- Click save
This should give your users the ability to register as a user and login from the home page.
