In reply to: serving on something other than index.phpOkay. Then just move everything up one level in the directory structure?

In reply to: Discussion settings keep changingNo, I have not.
I suspect it’s from the flurry of WordPress updates that have been coming out recently.
Next time I get an update I will check all the settings.

In reply to: What kind of regular maintenance should I do?Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately when I have an intermittent problem and contact my hosting company, I inevitably get the “we are unable to replicate the issue, please delete your cookies” kind of nonsense.
Is there something specific I can ask the hosting company to do or check on?

In reply to: Discussion settings keep changingUnfortunately the problem only shows up every several weeks, so the experiment would take a really long time.

In reply to: updated two plugins and now I have nothingExcellent. Those are good instructions. Thank you.
To update the thread, here’s what I did.
In wp-content I renamed the plugins directory to plugins_old, and created a new directory called plugins. That allowed me to get in to my admin interface, but of course my plugins were not working.
I copied into the new plugins directory all the plugins I had not updated. Then I went back into my admin and re-activated them, and then onto my site to make sure everything was still working.
Once that looked good, I added the other plugins. Looks like the trouble was an openid plugin (not author image, as I said originally).

In reply to: updated two plugins and now I have nothingThanks. I do not have access to the wordpress admin, so I’ll have to do it manually. How do I do that? Is that phpMyAdmin or is that in a file somewhere?

In reply to: Annoying ‘Auto Save’ Page Jumps. Thanks much!

In reply to: Annoying ‘Auto Save’ Page Jumps. Can someone give me a little javascript assistance on this?
I like the autosave feature, but I’d like to change the interval, which I believe you can do in autosave.js. But I don’t know javascript well enough to mess with this file.
I’m assuming this is the line I want.
autosavePeriodical=b.schedule({time:autosaveL10n.autosaveInterval*1000,func:function(){autosave()},repeat:true,protect:true});
And I’m assuming I want to change “*1000” to some other value, like “*2000”.
Is that right?
Thanks,
Greg
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: installation problemThanks for this thread. I just had the same problem after updating to 2.7.1.
The weird thing is that it ran fine for an hour or so after I did the upgrade, then I got the error message the next day. I reset the permissions on the blog folder (and subfolders and files) to 755 and it seems to be running fine now.

In reply to: Upgrade to 2.6, now website not showing.I solved my problem. I had the “author image” plugin installed in my old version and had to upload and reactivate it in the new version.

In reply to: Upgrade to 2.6, now website not showing.I got the white screen problem also, but realized it was because I had to upload my theme. That solved some of it, but now my front page only shows the title of the first post and nothing more.
Any ideas?

In reply to: Import from previous wordpress installationYes, I exported the files from phpMyAdmin, and it did give me a .tar.gz file, which I tried to import into phpMyAdmin on the new site — with no luck. I think I exceeded the size limit.
So I recreated the database on the new server, uncompressed the .tar.gz file, and tried to import individual tables. Still no luck.
