I do have the latest version installed.
I deactivated and reactivated, deleted the original table and tried again with a new table and new table name. Same problem.
I’m using theme Twenty Sixteen. I changed to theme Twenty Thirteen but had the same problem.
I’m happy to send screen shots if you’d like.

I suspect there is something wrong with the download files for wordpress-4.5.3-en_AU. For days I’ve been trying to install, reading many posts. But continued to get a blank white page.
I finally simply copied all the wordpress files from another site I installed months ago to the directory for the new site. Put the correct database info in the wp-config file. Installed without any problem then.
