No, not using a redirection plugin. I do have “news” set as the “posts” page, since my homepage is static.

    Thanks again…

Thanks again. I know it looks like that, but that’s part of my confusion. On my permalinks configuration page, the “Category base” is empty. Any other ideas?

Wait, stop. I think I got it. And if I did, it’s extremely stupid.

esmi – Thanks so much. That was a good step in the right direction. When I reset the custom permalinks to the default, the category pages work.

But, because I’d like to have “pretty” permalinks, I’m now trying to get that set up, referring to Using Permalinks.

When I just set the permalinks to the “common settings” of “month and name” and leave the category and tag base alone, it still doesn’t seem to work.

To test it, I just put “the_category” on my single.php template to try the link WP creates for that. You can see it displayed here:

    {category: blog, boundary waters digest)

But when you click the link to either category, it still gives a not found! I can’t figure it out.

    Thanks.

Sorry to pester. I’ve been messing with the code for the past few hours and can’t seem to figure it out. I’m just trying to create a category.php file that shows category posts when there are posts in that category, and shows “not found” text when there are no posts.

My issue seems to be that WordPress simply isn’t using my category.php file. When a category is empty, it just displays the 404.php file instead. If a category has posts, it seems to be using index.php to display them.

    So… hoping someone can help:

    A) Any ideas why WP is not using my category.php file? I thought that if that file existed in my theme directory, it would be used when viewing a category.

    B) If I can’t get category.php working, any chance someone can provide some code I can put on my 404.php file that will display a certain message if the user was attempting to access an empty category?

Hope this makes sense, hope someone can help.

    Thanks!

Wow. I thought I couldn’t be more in love with WP and the WP community. You sir are awesome. Thank you.

I hate to be the guy who could even be perceived as looking a gift horse in the mouth, but upon installation it looks like using this plugin, users will only search category name. I was just hoping to include category names in all searches.

Would it be possible to include two hidden inputs that instruct search to search both?

    Anyway, thanks so much.
