The “Lightbox effect on images” setting is turned on.

No cache plugins on any of them.

I read up on how to make a site plugin, put the code snippet in it, and the problem is gone. That was far easier than I expected.

That looks good as a temporary measure but presumably only until the functions.php file gets updated.
There must be a database setting that controls it. Is there a reference manual that covers the database?

I have also tried the Health Check plugin. This made no difference to the issue.
It must be a setting in WordPress itself that has somehow been set incorrectly.
This is not an old website (August 2017).

Thank you for the suggestion. I did as follows.
1. Clicked on Links and deleted all the links. They were all links to WordPress documentation etc. None that I had created.
2. Used phpMyAdmin. Looked at the table wp_links. It is (now) empty, zero rows.
3. Logged out and logged in again.
The Links is still there.
Any more ideas please?
