Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: not able to access wp admin panel after install on second domainI think I have the same problem. My first blog (domain) works but my second blog(add on domain) installs and when I create a new “site” (subdomain) it shows that it was created in the superadmin but the links to that site and wp-admin go to nothing, although when I hover over the link, it shows the correct URL. I thought it was that I couldn’t use the wildcard * on any addon domains but I’m not so sure because I installed it on a completely different host (as the “1st blog”) with the same results. Dont know if the multiuse is still buggy.

In reply to: 404 Not Found errorI have the same problem except I’m using subdomains instead of subfolders, and with the exception of the main page, they are not being found. Might be a bug.

In reply to: Multisite (sub-domains): are created but return a 404 errorbsirianni – are you sure you are supposed to upload your files to public/www ? Both my hosts I upload files to the public_html ? If so, it would be pointed to your htaccess file. Did you upload your files or use something like Fantasico to install? But what do I know? I thought I knew what I was doing with mine. Good luck. Let us know if you get it to work and how.
I made a totally new installation of WP on a DIFFERENT hosting company and used Softaculous (like Fantastico) for a fresh install and I waited for the DNS to propagate and the results are the same…it ends up on my main domain on my other host which has nothing to do with this host. I deleted all my cookies and restarted firefox and even used IE…same results. I uploaded a new theme to it so I know my domain points to my new host. Totally weird!

In reply to: Multisite (sub-domains): are created but return a 404 errorI have the same problem but the domain I’m using it on is an addon domain on my shared hosting. It creates the subdomain site in the superadmin but when I click on the link it goes to my main domain as if it wasn’t found. I believe it would be a 404 error if it wasn’t a addon domain.
My main domain is a WordPress MU and it works so I know what I’m doing. I have the wildcard, config file edit, and it was added to the db and .htaccess edit. Not sure if the htaccess is the problem. There was none. I had to create it so other than what the installation instructions were, there’s nothing else in the file.
I believe if it were the main domain, it wouldn’t have any problems. I get the feeling I can’t use the wildcard on an addon domain. I’m not really using he main domain on my hosting account so if worse comes to worse, I would discontinue that account and make a new account. Obviously, I would prefer not to do that though. Anyone have any suggestions?
