    Update and fix:
My wordpress installation is in domain.com/wordpress
and my url is in domain.com
So the plugin tried to fetch the links from domain.com/download with no success!
So all I had to do was change the endpoint to wordpress/download
and it seems to work just fine for now.

Leaving this here in case anyone steps on something like this

    Update:
had to perform a restoration cause I had a general issue with shortcodes.
Now the shortcodes appear to work just fine but another issue has emerged!

Although a non-logged in user sees the button and is redirected to my no-access-page attempting to download , when a logged in user tries to download the file I get a page not found error!
    Any ideas on that?

Thank you Bojan and Kasia for everything.
I guess it is now resolved

    Hey Kasia,
    thanks for the reply
    Latest updates:
Seems the previous administrator installed some plugins that probably left crumbs on the site. I cannot justify the behavior of the site any differently regarding the popups.I wish I could communicate with him in order to inform me about everything he had installed/uninstalled before I got my hands on the site but this is not possible.
I tried writing some custom javascript on a module provided by divi and it still didn’t show my custom popup.
So somehow the JS didn’t work at all on the site!
I am quite sure by now that it had nothing to do with the WP Popup or Divi for that matter.
At least I found a backup dated several months ago and restored the site in a previous functioning state, and now I am just tweeking..
The popup works just fine now by the way.

    Hey Bojan,
thanks for trying with me on this.
There are no errors on any page of the site (checked on 4 different browsers).

-I created a sub-domain and installed ALL the plugins the main site uses.( WP popup was the first, I don’t know if this is even relevant) In each installation I was checking both the settings to be according to the main site and if the Pop-up appeared. Well, it did… it was working…
what kind of sorcery is this?
-I then tried to use a different popup plugin on the main site just to make sure, and well after 5 or 6 tries I came to the conclusion that not a single popup plugin is working there.

    Hey Bojan,
    thanks for your reply!
    Regarding the “things to try”:
    1. First thing I did was try different loading methods and
Page Footer unfortunately had “issues” with the theme
WP Ajax and Custom Ajax only get me to the point I can preview the popup with success but they do not show the popup when I visit the url I appointed it to.
( I’ve used it on a stripped down browser just in case ad-blocks block the popup )
    2. I tried deactivating every plugin and use only WordPress Popup and Divi and still I can only just preview the popup.

What is quite strange is this: In my efforts to try and beat this puzzling situation I created a sub-domain and added just the Divi theme and the WordPress Popup Plugin and guess what… It does Work! So it must be another plugin interfering with the Popup even though it gets deactivated later on.
( probably a “cache” or security plugin I guess )
