In reply to: Menus not updatingYes. But those are my old “test” names. That horizontal bar needs different menus.

In reply to: Menus not updatingHello!
I’m checking every detail of the codex instructions and still can’t see what the problem is. By the way, this was also a problem when I was using the parent twenty ten, so it’s not because I’m using the twenty ten child. When I try to use the Theme Locations to assign the menu to Primary Navigation I click on Primary Navigation (above the selection drop down menu, so not really a selection, per se) and Save, but nothing happens.
I have screen shots of this, if that will help. Where is a safe place to post them where they wouldn’t be publicly viewable?

In reply to: Menus not updatingThat part of the codex is exactly what I was following. But I couldn’t get it to work.
I have to go make dinner — I’m sorry! Seems like terrible Forum manners to do this and I apologize. I used up all my computer time for the moment. I will be back later.
Thank you.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Menus not updatingI would if I could. The words “primary navigation” appear in italics above the selection options. All the options listed are simply other menu labels I’m trying to create.
When I click on the italics about the choices, it highlights the blank bar. Should I send a screenshot?

In reply to: Menus not updatingI see all those in the Sidebar, but I meant the horizontal bar menu across the top. I see Home, Contact, Matilda Rescues the Robot, Zayna’s Top Ten & About the Author. (Is that the Navigation menu?)
In the Theme Locations box on the left, it says “Select which menu you would like to use”. The selections include a blank space, and all the rest of my menu labels. Above the choices it says “Primary Navigation” so I assumed I was supposed to click on the blank space, which I did.

In reply to: Child Theme removed menu barIt’s better. Turns out that the plain text feature will still automatically give you smart quotes unless you know to disable that. So I changed them to plain quotes.
More significantly, I had used Cyberduck to try to upload things to the right place, per book instructions, but that backfired and I should have just used the Theme uploader from Twenty Ten.
I think it’s working as it should now, although obviously I have a lot more work to do on it.
Thank you so much for your help!Forum: Fixing WordPress

I’m going to remove the child theme and start over. Glad to have an obvious problem to address, though. Will also avoid hyphen.
It’s a steeper learning curve than I thought!Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Child Theme removed menu barThank you again. I have to leave — will be back soon to figure this out.

In reply to: Child Theme removed menu barThank you! I’ll check these out: File path, plain text, hyphens.
I thought I’d written it in textedit’s plain text, but it opened in textwrangler.
Will let you know. Thanks!

There seem to be lots of unfortunate differences beyond the menu bar, there’s no sidebar on the right, everything’s just dumped down at the bottom. (Font’s different, too.)
