  • John,

    Try this solution, since it seems to echo similar situations. First, download the file .htaccess from your blog’s root directory and copy it. (Odds are it will be blank, 0 bytes, but be sure.)

    Next, in the copy, insert the following lines:

    <Files xmlrpc.php>
    SecFilterInheritance Off
    </Files>

    Finally, upload the new .htaccess back to the blog’s root directory, then try your procedure again. That should clear it up.

    That solution also works for more recent installs, e.g. 2.5.1. I’ve been running into a “Precondition failed” error in several places, such as using the Gallery to add an image. Putting those lines into .htaccess with the file name listed in the error message cleared the problem.

    (shrug) Don’t ask me what I did or how, but I appear to have fixed the problem. I went into the TinyMCE editor settings, pulled off the CSS formats dropdown, unchecked the advanced link and image boxes and checked the context menu. When I went back to my draft, the bullets had returned to the WYSIWYG editor.

    If anyone’s still interested in giving this a shot, drop a post (grin).

    This isn’t an Opera thing, necessarily. I’m having wrap problems from the beginning in 2.3.1, and I’m using Windows XP and Firefox with TinyMCE Advanced plugin (needed to resolve the button problem, as well as get rid of the background-color problem). Any more ideas?

    That indeed is the answer. I went through theme after theme, looking for a solution. What’s the bug in Adhesive? — though I so rarely use sticky posts that I might as well just pull the plugin period.

    Moshu:

    You can never put code (html or other) in the wysiwyg thing. You couldn’t do that even before 2.1.

    Actually, I beg to differ on that; I dropped raw (div)s and Technorati tags into my wysiwyg editor in 2.0.x with almost every post, and they routinely worked (within the parameters of the engine). I used Firefox in Windows XP.

    This is correct, though, with 2.1; code in “code” only, not in wysiwyg.

    I found the solution to the problem after vgrepping Mozilla/Firefox documentation online. It seems my profile in Firefox was somehow corrupted; possibly by a bad extension added at some point. Restarting Firefox in safe mode did no good (check your menu for the link to do so; it’s valuable!); every extension and theme was shut down, but the problem did not resolve. However, starting Firefox through the Profile Manager (firefox.exe -profilemanager) and creating a blank profile did the trick. I searched out my bookmarks and copied them over, reinstalled needed extensions one at a time to make sure I could learn which to avoid if needed, and I’m back in business.

    Thanks to Yosemite for your answer; if you come to alt.callahans, a BOYC (beverage of your choice) is prepaid and waiting for you on my buck.

    No good; everything’s still invisible. I have to wonder if a Firefox extension or something similar is doing the job; that’s the first thing that occurs to me. I wish there was a way to simply deactivate extensions instead of uninstalling them completely….

    Beyond that, anyone have any more ideas? And thanks, Yosemite; the comeback’s appreciated.

    Latest development: I did some writing on the blog from a wireless connection at a cafe’, and went in with Firefox. All graphics are present! But they still aren’t here on the home version.

    Does that give any clues? Is anybody even reading this??

    Okay, o master of the Zen koan (grin). But I’ve yet to crack a book on PHP or decipher the instructions in the Codex; and until I figure it out, those posts are as good as lost…along with my quote-jar database, which I had up to 60 quotes or so. (That’s a plugin, and another matter.)

    In the meantime, I have another, slightly more serious problem with the “service” graphics disappearing. See my new thread, please, if you haven’t already.

    I just looked at the actual blog, and my template graphics are missing as well — in Firefox. There is nothing missing in Internet Explorer for some reason, as I’ve verified by checking it out.

    Curiouser and curiouser. Does anybody have ideas?

    I also realized that a link to the blog would be helpful here, to see if anybody is getting the same thing:

    Thanks for the comebacks.

    After calling Yahoo customer support, and being told, “I can’t answer your question about why there is no access because you’re running a third-party blog,” I chose the new-host route. I just wish their customer support had told me exactly what I needed to do, instead of expecting I could divine their needs out of the luminiferous aether. I lost all three months of posts I had accumulated on the Yahoo location. I have a backup, but I don’t know where to go with this, and I’m just having fun re-establishing all my subdomains before I tackle extracting missing posts from the backup.

    When I’m ready to do that, I’ll yelp on here in the appropriate location for a PHP guru, because I’ll need some serious handholding, I’m afraid, to pull this off. Thanks again.

    Turning back to the original topic:

    febwa1976 > did they say what was the specific problem? I called their service number today after finally digging it out of the Small Business site, and all I got was a drone who would not even tell me that a situation existed. And how did you manage to get even this much information?

    I’m having the exact same problem here as ChrisP, from the looks (Yahoo, privileges, et al.). I am an absolute greener at php and phpMyadmin, and have barely figured out anything so far.

    I did get the wordpress database created; my privileges will allow me to do that. But I can find no way of upping my privileges to add another user to the silly thing. Also, on the privileges page, it gives this message:

    strong Warning: Your privilege table structure seem to be older than this MySQL version!
    Please run the script mysql_fix_privilege_tables that should be included in your MySQL server distribution to solve this problem!/strong

    Does this give any clues to what to do? I’ve searched my directories, and don’t have the script to run, so I can’t repair anything. Do I need to slam my head against the Great Wall of Yahoo for a week or two until I get an answer from them?

    In the words of the Jetsons: HEPL!
