I thought the legacy mode was an older version?
If you are suggesting I use it, what improvements or features do I miss out on by not going with a newer version.

I agree Gemma, however it does look like they are taking care of it by the reviews. However, wonder if many of the reviews are for the paid version.
This was not the attitude that WordPress was built on. But the environment is changing rapidly. There are no annual residual payments here and that always scares me when forking out money. Nothing keeping them around when the well dries up.

Google speaks of site key and Secret key, you talk about public and private key. I have tried site key and secret key in place of the public and private keys and they did not work. (They have worked for other contact form plugins). Your place public and private keys entry is not easy to access.

After much searching I found a great alternative

I imagine safeguards will be put in place that will not allow this breakdown to happen again. If WordPress is competing for more worldwide marketshare of their web platform they cannot allow other large plugins like FS Contact Forms to fall like this.
A free market is great, the strong will survive! But it looks really bad. And as a user it feels bad that I made the wrong choice in my selection of learning a plugin. (3 donations over 5 years)

I see where there is a site key and a secret key on the recaptcha page, but I do not see where the public and private key is?

Unfortunately I have new WP version updates going thru automatically. I would maybe like to hold off on the 5.0 for a week or so to let the yelling die down, and the bugs get sprayed.

Thank you for your response. So you are saying a small local business may be the most secure to go with White List Block. Ever since this attack yesterday I feel very vulnerable and want to nail down the shutters and get a few dozen guard dogs to watch the door. To bad more could not be done to stop the people behind these attacks.

Very few developers own all the skill sets to cover all the bases of having a great plugin. If it remains free it becomes difficult to hire someone to manage UX design and admin as it is expensive (unless they join up with people who own the skill sets they lack).
I have always believed that we can learn from each other. Hopefully we can do so without feeling too defensive when criticised.
Yes, most just dump a plugin (as I have) and move on! Love what this one does!
