Hi Mykyta, thanks for your reply.

I’ve had an email back from my original support request now, so let me see how it goes and I’ll get back to you.

Okay, can you let me know when it is fixed and I’ll try adding it again.
    Many thanks, HC.

    Hi Tung Tran
Thanks for offering to help me here and I will happily upgrade my review if we can resolve this matter.
I have emailed your help desk with the details as suggested.
    Regards

Thanks Rinku Y but I have been following the documentation and unfortunately, the site origin page builder plugin wasn’t working at all.
I’ve already done all the things you suggested and with no joy, otherwise I wouldn’t have troubled you. I’ll have another look now. Failing that, is it worth re-installing the plugins?

    Thanks again.

P.S. it appears to be working now so I’ll try again.

The email I just sent lists my problems but in case you didn’t receive this…

    1) I have been trying to integrate this with a mailchimp account, but it doesn’t seem to want to do this.
    2) The person who the website is for has tried subscribing to the list – but doesn’t appear in the list of subscribers (I tested it myself yesterday and my name does appear).

    The website is mainsailbooks.co.uk.

I really hope we can fix this today.

Thank you very much, I will do that later today.
I can change my review if I can resolve this.

Yes, I appreciate your concern but even for a small author website, a weekly notification is not great! When I used the Mailchimp plugin on another site (an author networking site, non profit-making) we got an email notification every time someone signed up. It just means someone has to go in and check every day to see if there have been any new subscribers. In this case, my author friend wants to give away a free book every time someone signs up as an incentive. So say he gets 5 new subscribers on Monday & Tuesday – then doesn’t get notification until Sunday. That is potentially 4-5 days those people will be kept waiting.

It took a while to get the form on the sidebar to work properly and even then we had to set up all sorts of permissions to get it showing on every page.
It was difficult to link it to a mailchimp account too. Obviously we would prefer if it if we could set up a different account for this so it doesn’t conflict with the other one. So we did this with a new mailbox – yet I was unable to test it. The author wanted this live for the weekend, but without being able to test it properly it is very hard! Neither of us have seen a single email to check what is coming through.

From the two test ones we did to sign up ourselves, we got nothing (i.e. no welcoming email) which is a bit rotten. I personally don’t think the author will get much from this in the course of a year so it seems a bit wrong to suggest he spends £72 a year just for a handful of subscribers.

Thanks Takayuki but I already went through the documentation.

There is nothing about permissions – is it possible you could advise what it should be?
e.g. .htaccess? (set at chmod 755, is this correct?)

Then at least I can contact my hosting company.

Hi Matt and thanks for your reply
I think the problem I was having may have something to do with permissions. I tried looking into this and there seemed to be a problem with the .htaccess file. Can you advise me as to how I might be able to change it?

I will post the same question on the contact-form-7 forum too as you suggest.
    Best regards
    Helen

That’s fixed it! I found the custom css.
    Thank you so much ??

Hi, we’re having a bit of a difficult time. But no – I tried the previous version.
and that didn’t solve anything either. I didn’t create any subfolder. I installed it exactly as before through wordpress (so it surely would have all gone into the plugins folder)

“No question asked yet! be the first to ask a question. Ask question”

THIS IS STILL SHOWING on the home page as a huge, ugly great banner on the top of the page.
    I don’t want this.
Please can you tell me how I can get rid of it.

Thanks for coming back to me.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case at all.
The two sites are identical – they have the same template and content and the same widget set up.
There are widgetised areas but they are very specific and we haven’t altered them for the live site. Anspress seems to have a mind of it’s own here and I don’t understand why it has gone strange for the new site and landed extra content at the top and the bottom of the pages, when it worked perfectly OK for the old one.

The version we are using is Version 1.4.3 on the newest site
Version 1.4.1 is on the older one (which works)
Both Sites use WordPress 4.1 (4.01 on the older one) and running AgentPress Pro Theme theme.

Do you think I should try the older version of anspress?

Hello again. We spoke some time ago about setting up a forum which we did on a dummy site and you very kindly helped to guide me through the process: https://www.walbertondental.co.uk/

We are trying to replicate this on the live site now:
    https://www.excomp.co.uk/
but it all seems completely different.
All I did was repeat the steps above: install anspress > activate > use a page called Forum as a slug.
But why is it that there are great notices above the top of the page and right at the bottom of the page: “No question asked yet! be the first to ask a question. Ask question”

This isn’t how we want it to appear – especially not on the home page.
How we had it before was perfect – no big notices, just a simple link to the forum.
Is it possible the plugin has completely changed in the way it is configured and is there any way we can get rid of these?

Oh dear – I didn’t mean to cause any offence and apologise if I have.

I am very grateful for the help and advice you have given me, it’s just I’m not much of a techie. I added an extra page for the forum so that it showed in the menu.
I then added a link on that extra page, to enter the forum, but only logged in users can access it, not everyone.
This was the point where I was hoping there would be some way of prompting people to register. I’ve seen public forums before and some terrible stuff gets posted on them.

Anyway later in the afternoon my husband went through the same process. One of the options was to allow people to login which he fixed. So it is all working fine!

So thank you again for all the time and trouble you have taken to help us, your advice has proved to be extremely valuable.

Enjoy the rest of your day ??

I just can’t do this! Spent yet another entire morning trying to figure it all out, watched the video 4 times (but all it seemed to cover was paid membership using paypal which I don’t want because this needs to be a free membership forum)

I set up the free access,
    got a page,
created 2 new pages, one as a landing page for users (not logged in) to go to the forum and 1 for them to register.

    What did I get?

User registration is currently not allowed.
    GREAT!
    So it still doesn’t work.

I’m sorry but I don’t have enough hours in my life to follow this route unless I can pay someone to set it up for me.
I’m grateful for all the help you gave me – just not intelligent enough to grasp it.
