Yes, the problem ended up being with my CDN (via W3 Total Cache) – Amazon Cloudfront. Not sure why but I disabled the CDN for now and everything is working properly.

I disabled W3 Total Cache and that fixed it. It looks like a problem with my CDN, though I have no idea why, so I have the CDN feature turned off for now.

It didn’t work at first, but then I logged out and did a hard reload and the sidebar was there. Logged back in and did another hard reload and the sidebar is gone again. So, it’s something that’s only broken when I’m logged in. Huh.

Samuel, yeah, I can see it now if I look in Internet Explorer, but I’ve cleared the cache a bazillion times and I still see no sidebar in Chrome. ?? Must be on my end I guess.

Other things I have tried:

– removing all themes and plugins (using twenty thirteen theme)
– reverting to default permalinks
– installing wordpress from scratch

Same problem every time. I also tried reverting to the old index.php code and doing exactly what I used to do before (and exactly what it says in the instructions), and I get this error instead:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '/' in /home/soper/263soper.com/index.php on line 17

I still can’t get it to work. I have removed all plugins and themes except for the default Twenty Thirteen theme. I have tried googling the problem but I can’t find an answer anywhere.

Does anyone know how to change the site address using the new index.php?

Yes, I know where the option is in settings. As I said, when I change it in settings, and add /wordpress to the index.php page as described in the instructions, it doesn’t work, and I get the error message I copied and pasted.
