Thanks for this reply, I’m sorry I missed it previously. I’m not exactly sure how to do so? I do not even remember being asked, through the install process. Do I set those permissions through my server filemanager? If those folder permissions are set in place, is there another step? Or should I be able to obtain plugins after? Thanks!

    Hi claro03,

Thank you for your help and advice. I’m sorry but I missed this post, until today. I can access my dashboard now. I had some help from my server admin.

I still have a, big? …. to me it’s big, problem getting the plugins to download. The message after it fails, is that it could not create the directory /home/username/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-e-commerce/

Yet, my cPanel shows the folder in the path. All attempts to download a plugin have failed. With the same message.

I thought I was through with this help forum, once dashboard was running?

I can see the folder wp-content. Inside are 2 folders; plugins and themes. But there is also another folder marked wordpress 2 which has all of the same folders inside including another wp-content folder. Inside that folder are the 2 folders plugins and themes and another file marked index.php

That wordpress 2 folder seems to contain all of the other files and folders that are in my cPanel string; from public_html down.

Could some kind person, put me straight about this please. …. and thank you!

I am becoming more clear with what needs doing, from your link. I will actually do it tomorrow, after some rest and to also follow along with the steps prior to changing anything. Thank-you for clearing up some of my questions, around the encryption. …. cheers!

When looking at my list of databases on hostgator, there is my database file but there is also a file of a database called, information_schema It is the first database name in the list, I just do not remember creating it? Is it okay to ignore it? Since I only have one site, why is it showing me 2 databases, any ideas please?
Also when I get to that place in phpmyadmin the password showing is not the one i entered in either my user info, or the config file. So, given that it does not seem as though I’m firing on all cylinders? My assumption is; that I do not click the box at the beginning of line? I just click edit take out that longstring of numbers and letters and replace with my password entered into that config file? I will not edit anything, until I see a reply to this post. Thanks and cheers!

Well, after another upload of Wp and the new user and config file, I’m distraught. This time I uploaded the complete file with the WP-content folder in it and still getting my error message. I have been in there. I know my dashboard exists! Why oh why, did i mess around with my user info. I’m going to seek hostgator help, maybe I can get that info back?

I wish I could just get it running!!! I’m not stupid, but I’m beginning to feel like a total dolt and what’s more? A frustrated dolt!

I re-examined that file for the 20th time and saw that my database name after ‘, Was entered on the next line. So, I placed the cursor after that ‘ . Which bought the whole database line back onto one line? I saved and uploaded, but to no avail? I really thought I had it then?

So, perhaps I will create another user and config file to match? The old data base credentials are no longer in my Mysql memory, I stupidly erased the original and created a new user but the same name. I took a couple of days off of the problem, since it was giving me the heebie jeebies. Thanks for the help! I know it says, 5min, quick install and I thought I could follow instruction? But this is now hour 50 or so, spread out over the last three weeks ….. yikes!

    (@hirundine)

Okay, that’s straight forward. After I’ve uploaded that file, do I use my previous bookmark to access dashboard? Or do I need to use a different URL address; to access dashboard? If multiple users are on that database is there a different config file for each user? Or does the one on the server re-adjusted with strings for each user? Cheers!

    Thread Starter hirundine

    (@hirundine)

Whoops, I also meant to ask. If another user is created for the database, is a different password required for each user? Or is the password irrelevant provided the config file has it; in the right place? Thanks!

    Thread Starter hirundine

    (@hirundine)

Will it matter if the database and the user use the same name? That’s how I started the whole thing. Do I need to re-upload that file even if the text entered is not changed? Do I need to create another user? Everything appears to be correct between, ‘ and ‘ my password appears to be correct. What would be the best way to restore, please? Lastly, is there any limit to uploading the “config” file, provided the information is correct and then being able to access the dashboard? Thanks and cheers!

    Thread Starter hirundine

    (@hirundine)

    Hi Tim S,
The file seems to be reflecting the correct user and related; this config file, is the file now lodged on the server of my website. and I seem to have the correct password all in between quotes. An issue, for me is that my user name is the same name as my database. So is this a conflict, for the system? It is different from the original database name used to create my dashboard. So do I need another URL for access? Or do I need to add back the original user info? By adding back that user and the config file to reflect the original user? ……. Looking back at what’s written here, it seems muddy and unclear, maybe? …….. Cheers! ….. honestly, I wish I was not so ignorant!

    Thread Starter hirundine

    (@hirundine)

Yes, but I monkeyed around with my user name on my database and although I’ve restored it. The page for dashboard no longer recognizes me. I must have been out of my silly mind? I was just following the instructions and committed that mindless act. The same user is now restored on my database, at hostgator. There is a wordpress connection wizard, but it’s not clear how to use it and this is probably not the right forum for explanation. ….. but hey! thanks for your help!

    Thread Starter hirundine

    (@hirundine)

Yikes, I really messed it up by messing around with my config file and user at my hostgator account. ……. now I’m not sure how to get back to dashboard?

I feel like really dumping on myself, right now! I’m going to go away and have a little hissy fit! ….. i’m just feeling so burned out, trying to get this thing going. But my ignorance and inability to follow instruction. If I had not be taken in by that use the earlier version thing …. g-a-a-r-g-h-h! It’s like follow the instructions …. it’s so simple. Yah think? I’m going to make tea.

    Thread Starter hirundine

    (@hirundine)

Well it’s there on the new download …. will it not overwrite? Or do I just leave it as config-sample.php file? ….. thanks!

    Thread Starter hirundine

    (@hirundine)

Ah, okay except that my config file the one I changed from config-sample is from version 2.6.3, So, why would I want to re-do this, please? I think the first version, the latest was already on my server through hostgator? Then, the directions I am following for install, said to use the earlier version to assist n following the instructions to the end. Using the version shown in the instructions ….. does this make sense? Personally I do not care? In that I will probably be able to follow the instructions with latest dashboard. My real problem lay, in the fact that when starting up cPanel in hostgator I could not see a fantastico link, but allowed the wizard to install WP. Without the necessary knowledge through subsequent steps. So, if I follow your last tip; will I not get the same default message that I’m already installed? …… thanks!

P.S. since I can;t find that Config-sample file. I”m beginning to see why you’re saying to re-upload. I will wait for your response.
