    Yeah, I’m bumping this.

Still no resolution on this, huh?

    @fergbrain:

Got it. Works like a charm. I missed these new settings in the plug-in. I had been using a very old version for a long time till I just upgraded everything on one of our sites.

    Thanks again.

Thank you for that. However, if you read my original question, your points do not address it is any way.

I don’t want to change the bullet style. I want to have a line break/return between items in the countdown timer list. NO BULLET.

In an earlier version of this plug-in one had to edit the code to achieve this.
    1) It would be a nice feature to be able to do this without editing the code.
    2) If I want to eliminate the bullet and just have a line break, does the original way to make this change still work?

I find it difficult to understand that this is still an issue, even with WP 2.3 installs.

I just did a fresh clean install on a brand new hosting account of WP 2.3 and…
    …BING! No Rich Text Editor.

And there are about 34.65 different solutions that may or may not work.

    My comments:

    1. There seem to be so many people that have had this type of problem and there are several possible solutions. I had this problem recently and it was definitely something that was wrong on the server side. My host ended up moving me to another server with a more current version of PHP and that cleared it up.

    2. I’d be really curious about this as well. We just noticed this happening on our blog last night as well. My thought was, again, perhaps something server side was reset wrong, as those are foreign characters.

Just curious, who is your host?

Not that anyone really cares about this. But the issue was resolved server side. I’m not sure exactly what it was, but they were upgrading parts of the server and something went bad.

If you are having this problem, I highly recommend that you look at this as a server side problem.

Hmmm, this seems to be promising and that it is an error in the version of Tinymce that is included with WP. I’ll try the update and see if that helps.

Update: must be server side…replacing the files didn’t help.

Another thread indicated that a “realpath” setting server side might be an issue. Any thoughts on that?

Also another indicated that it might be a stuck value in the database for these users. But I’m having trouble finding the data in the database.

    @handysolo:

Humor me: Check for YOUR user. Users -> Your Profile, top checkbox?

Yes, it is checked for MY user. I unchecked it. Saved changes. Then rechecked it and saved. Confirmed that it was checked on MY user and still nothing.

No, java is not deactivated in my browser.

No security suite blocking it. It worked prior to upgrade and this is repeatable on different machines. (Oddly another user of the same website that logs on from the same machine as me still has RTE.)

    Cache cleared. Java cache cleared.

WYSIWYG is checked on for all users.

    I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.6

UPDATE: I just booted up an NEW install of Ubuntu I did last night on a separate computer. Using Firefox 2.0.0.6 on Ubuntu I logged on and had the same problem. No RTE. No “Visual” or “Code” tabs. Just a text field when writing a post.

I’m having this problem as well. I first noticed it when I upgraded a site to 2.2.2. then I went and checked a site that is still on 2.2.1.

And I’ve looked at both of these with two different computers. No RTE/TinyMCE. I even installed TinyMCE-Advanced on the 2.2.2 install and that doesn’t work.

IS it possible that java was deactivated on the server side somehow?

I started to have this problem after an upgrade to 2.1.

I’m just noting that I’ve had no problems installing 2.x on GoDaddy Linux servers (free and paid). And I still, based on my expierence, believe that no additional steps are required to install 2.x on GoDaddy Linux servers beyond those noted in the 5 min install.

Beyond that, I was curoius if your extra steps resolved the issue of the rich text editor not working on GoDaddy installs. And your extra, and I believe unnecessary, steps no nto resolve that issue.

Stonecreek>> My holy grail is that you don’t need to follow your steps that include the CHMOD adjustment. You need to get the mysql server correct in place of “localhost” in the wp-config.php file. Other than that, there is nothing other special to do with GoDaddy hosting.

I just tried your process three times. And it works. But it works to follow the typical 5-minute install as well. I tried that several times. No difference in how it worked.

The only thing I still see as a problem is that the rich text editor does not want to fuction on GoDaddy. You’re supposed fix above does nothing for that issue.
