I need to edit it inline, because only part of the text in the title is to have special formatting, i.e. select word(s) of the text, not the entire tagline.

I encounter this when I try to “Activate and Publish” in the Customizer, after changing themes in the Customizer.

I have no CSS set, and it’s a clean installation with no plugins active.

However, I can change themes by going to Appearance > Themes.

No idea what’s the issue.

You mean the 2.3.0 update, or the 2.3.1 update?

Similar issues were corrected in 2.3.1. Upgrade to Storefront 2.3.1 and check it out again.
