Ah, I can see what the problem is – the entire wp-admin folder seems to be missing. Hopefully replacing it from a backup will fix the problem.

So the site was hacked, hence the problems. From reading around it seems like they gained access to the config file to find out the password.

So now I’m updating the .htaccess file as outlined in this article: https://www.mastermindblogger.com/2011/14-ways-to-prevent-your-wordpress-blog-from-being-hacked/

What you’re saying makes sense.

Also they all come out ‘ok’ when doing a database check in c panel.

I could be wrong but as far as I can see the only file to be changed by the ‘hacker’ was the index.php file.

No, in the wordpress admin section only the default pages are listed. i.e the ones from the blank template.

I double checked the wp-config file and it has the correct database.

Is there some other file that has settings to do with databases/usernames etc? When I first uploaded the new config file i was prompted to ‘install’ wordpress. Does that mean there is a file that has been wiped/changed with some settings info?

Yeah when I go into phpMyAdmin I can see that everything is still there – posts and content specific to the theme.

Unfortunately I didn’t make a wordpress export file for this site.

Hi Patrick. Yeah that’s what I thought. User02 has access to all privileges. So I’m somewhat baffled. I’ll try making a new wp-config file with user01. Not sure what else to try.

With the database usernames – does it matter which one you use? As long as it is added to the correct database?
