Ah, I can see what the problem is – the entire wp-admin folder seems to be missing. Hopefully replacing it from a backup will fix the problem.
So the site was hacked, hence the problems. From reading around it seems like they gained access to the config file to find out the password.
So now I’m updating the .htaccess file as outlined in this article: https://www.mastermindblogger.com/2011/14-ways-to-prevent-your-wordpress-blog-from-being-hacked/

In reply to: Site was hacked, how do I get my old content to display? What you’re saying makes sense.
But I can see all the tables are there in phpMyAdmin in the hosts c panel. Screenshot here: https://www.holidayrentalturkey.co.uk/stuff/tables.jpg
Also they all come out ‘ok’ when doing a database check in c panel.
I could be wrong but as far as I can see the only file to be changed by the ‘hacker’ was the index.php file.
Again, thanks for taking the time to hep me figure out what’s going on with this site.

In reply to: Site was hacked, how do I get my old content to display? No, in the wordpress admin section only the default pages are listed. i.e the ones from the blank template.
I double checked the wp-config file and it has the correct database.
Is there some other file that has settings to do with databases/usernames etc? When I first uploaded the new config file i was prompted to ‘install’ wordpress. Does that mean there is a file that has been wiped/changed with some settings info?

In reply to: Site was hacked, how do I get my old content to display?Yeah when I go into phpMyAdmin I can see that everything is still there – posts and content specific to the theme.
Unfortunately I didn’t make a wordpress export file for this site.
Thanks for the help on this.

In reply to: Site was hacked, how do I get my old content to display?Hi Patrick. Yeah that’s what I thought. User02 has access to all privileges. So I’m somewhat baffled. I’ll try making a new wp-config file with user01. Not sure what else to try.

Let me just rephrase my questions above.
With the database usernames – does it matter which one you use? As long as it is added to the correct database?

In reply to: Site was hacked, how do I get my old content to display?Hi Christine,
So you think I should make a new wp-config file and use the old username (user01) on the database? At them moment the config file is using the old database with a new user (user2).

So the blank template shows, now just need to know what files to change so the posts, pages and images show up again.
