As for your initial question, you should be able to reduce the space by going to Hero -> Inner Pages Hero and change the Content Spacing Top/Bottom values.

On inner pages hero section you have a checkbox “Show page featured image when available”. If you check this and add a featured image to your post/page from wordpress, it will show the page image.

The scroll effect was disabled by default in the last update, and a checkbox was added in General Options -> Page Settings. When we’ll fix it on all browsers we’ll enable it by default.
