Another way to avoid Twitter box from appearing twice in excerpts is to “disable Twitter” by unchecking the “Active share buttons” Twitter box.

Therefore this is obviously a bug with the “Add Twitter, Facebook Like, Google plus one Social share” plugin and I would really hope it can be fixed or at least find a workaround that does not include disabling Twitter.

I disabled “Twitter, Facebook Like, Google plus one Social share” (TFGS) plugin and the extra twitter button disappeared.

Therefore the problem is with TFGS.

But it looks identical to your Twitter button in the box below.

I looked at all plugins and I thought it could be Jetpack which I had activated for a while then deactivated. I deleted Jetpack. I emptied the cache. All files are gone but the twitter box is still there.

I have 14 plugins and only yours and “oa-social login” have something to do with Twitter, but “oa-social login” buttons look different and only appear for login.

I emptied the cache several times and nothing.

The one thing that makes the recent post with 3 votes appear in the widget list is if I increase the number of posts shown in the widget from 10 to 12 or more.

I found the “the_excerpt” function in a different php file because I guess it depends on the theme. I added your code and it works but unfortunately I am also using the Twitter Facebook share plugin and the star(s) don’t appear after the excerpt but after the Twitter Facebook Share block and it looks weird.

If you have any idea how to fix it so it appears before the “Read More” button, let me know. But I will look into it since I myself added that button but don’t remember anymore how I did that.

I updated to Version 1.9.15 and the star still does not appear. I have set it up to 1 star vote. Maybe I selected this setting but I cannot find where… anyone knows?

Thanks for your reply. The textbox I fixed. I did empty the cache – several times.
As for the old plugin, I updated the usual way, by clicking the WordPress link announcing there is a newer version. How am I supposed to delete the old plugin? I checked the file with FTP but there are no versions attached to file names.
I updated to Version 2.4.0 and the twitter button still appears twice in excerpt posts although the changelog says it was fixed.

I figured where to add frameborder=”0″.
Add to every <iframe
like this:
<iframe frameborder=”0″ src=”https://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?&#8230;

in tf_display.php

But in IE8 it still shows a white background. You need to add one more thing to IFrame
<iframe allowTransparency=”true” frameborder=”0″ src=”https://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?&#8230;

That solves the problem for IE8.

What I can’t figure how to fix is the Twitter box appearing twice!

I am not familiar with Firebug, but this is what I did:
(1) went to Firebug/Inspect Element
(2) I don’t see the word “Error” anywhere so don’t know if there are errors
(3) I clicked on the NET tab, activated it and it’s blank
(4) In W3 Total Cache plugin, if I uncheck the “enable” box “JS minify settings:” then CKEditor works fine. If I check the box, and no other box, the problem reappears.
(5) I clear the cache all the time as I update/enable/disable plugins or install new ones – I also clear it before and after a change to JS minify.

What now?

I have the same problem. I read that 50% of people still use Windows XP with IE8 or less. So this is a problem.
