Thanks. @backup-guard are on the case and looking through my website, so there should be a solution before too long.
Let’s hope!
Hi
Thanks. I did that but still can’t delete the old backup file.
Also BackupGuard seems to have reverted to its old trick of playing hide and seek in the left-hand menu. Sometimes it’s there and sometimes it isn’t: you just have to jiggle about until it reappears.
Thanks for contacting me separately and for all your help with this.
Following your advice, I deactivated and re-activated Backup Guard and the menus returned. I am grateful to you for that. It wasn’t that easy because for some reason the plugin buttons had disappeared too (I have no idea why); but I updated Backup Guard to 1.4.7 and that seemed make the buttons reappear.
As a result, I was able to get a full back today without difficulty. I think this indicates that the issue is now resolved, perhaps mainly as the result of the upgrade to 1.4.7.
Thanks.
I’m afraid we have a problem. I’m not prepared to post screenshots of my dashboard &c. for all to see on the internet and you are not prepared to give me an email address I can send them to.
So I cannot see how we can make progress.
I’m sorry, but this is very unhelpful. I don’t have a menu, so I can’t get a log file. I cannot email a screenshot to you, as your email was no reply. All it shows anyway is that there is no Backup Guard menu.
I don’t have, or don’t know how to access, “the FTP client”.
I naively assumed that Backup Guard was a simple, user-friendly, facility which could be used by someone who wasn’t a computer professional. If that is not the case, perhaps people like me should use another plugin.

In reply to: [JetBackup - WP Backup, Migrate & Restore] PHP EXECUTION TIMEOUT ERRORLucky you! It was the last update which went wrong for me and now I find that the Backup Guard menu has disappeared, so I have no method of seeing or retrieving any backups, let alone creating any. As far as I am concerned, it is absolutely essential that backup systems are secure enough for you to have confidence in them. I can’t see that Backup Guard is good enough for that, at least at the moment.
However, I have been asked to create a separate thread and I’ll do that to get off this one.

In reply to: [JetBackup - WP Backup, Migrate & Restore] PHP EXECUTION TIMEOUT ERRORI managed in the end to back up the wpc, but I’ve tried repeatedly to back up the plugins without success. The attempts usually fail but one said it was a “success” but the file was empty. That raises doubts about the trustworthiness of this plugin as a backup facility.
Is there a reliable way to back up the plugins?

In reply to: [JetBackup - WP Backup, Migrate & Restore] PHP EXECUTION TIMEOUT ERRORI’m getting exactly the same issues, but more acutely. I have set the request frequency to 10 seconds but I’m not sure whether that helped.
I have been able to backup the database, themes and uploads individually, but not the wpc or the plugins.
Before the latest update, I got a perfectly good full 411MB backup on 7 September. Is it possible to roll back somehow?
Thanks. I’ve done that and now amended the initial post accordingly. One of the advantages of this plugin is that it frees you from the vagaries (and, in my experience, unreliability) of Jetpack and I an truly grateful for that.
Sorry not to have come back earlier, but I have been abroad.
My site consists of three linked sites. A main one, which then splits into two separate sites (so that we can have different themes on the secondary sites). I usually install plugins on the main site and then network activate them so that they apply across all three sites – and that normally works fine.
This plugin seems to be different. If I network activate it, it doesn’t work on the secondary sites (I don’t know whether it would work on the main site as I haven’t got appropriate links on it). Rather irritatingly (as I said on my first post), if you network activate it, it does send all the right email responses but doesn’t retain the email addresses of subscribers.
When I deactivated it, I network deactivated it on the main site. I then activated it individually on the secondary sites without network activating it on the main site. Lo and behold, it seems to work and has done so now apparently consistently for about a month.
I hope this may help bethsedeawork, or at least give a clue what might be worth a try.
As another tip, it is a bit fiddly getting the emails to send something sensible, but you seem to be able to edit all the templates if you poke around long enough. When you have got it to work, it’s quite a good and useful plugin.
Well, there you are. I de-activated the plugin and then re-activated it again and it started to work. So I will probably give it a higher rating if it continues.
