Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farThanks for opening this up for a final statement. If you are installing at Network Solutions, not using Network Solutions automatic WP install via your admin, you will need put your IP address of your php database in wp-config.php file under Db location.. just the IP. Don’t use the domain name and folder etc. Hence, with this info, it might take less than 5 mins install at NS. Thanks. Have a great day!

In reply to: Communicating with moderator offline?OK thanks. I agree. The offer of job and and the resulting close of thread left the matter unresolved. In the interest in becoming a good WP citizen I was only trying to show how to resolve the matter which is hard to do not having access to the thread the reason I attempted to communicate with the moderator, but had no way of doing so. Thanks for opening it up. I’ll make the resolution statement there. Thanks again and have a nice day!

In reply to: Communicating with moderator offline? To Mrmist:
I’ve only made two post here at WP. Both had disclaimers in the event I might have made a mistake in posting wrongfully. The first post related to the install. No one knew apparently how to install wp at Network Solutions, one of the largest hosting services on the planet. Yes, since the Moderator was not aware of how to install WP at Network Solutions, I did make a blanketed offer for help–my frustration in not getting WP to work was clearly evident. I regret that I made that offer, however, I did indicate that I hope it was kosher to post that info and if not to refer me to place where I could post the info. The moderator offered the place where I should post job and closed the tread indicating rules. I presume the moderator for that thread knew the conversation was coming to and end anyway as I was only taking to him, or her I don’t know, especially after I spent 10 hours or so on the 5 min install to no avail. “YOu must use your IP address in the Db script” might have saved me a lot of grief.
I did take the Moderators advice and post a job and found workers, and hence communicated with wp staff to close the job so that post went SUCCESSFULLY, which was not included in your summary. So I’m now batting 2 wrongs and 1 right. No so good a record, but I’m new here.
Regarding the post I made about WPMU, it is not readily clear from viewing worpress.org that wordpress MU is anything different from WP?, that had it’s own download and website. In fact, the link to mu.worpress is pretty much burried in copy on www.ads-software.com that one can hardly find it. I only learned about MU, not at wordpress org but from google info. So, from all reasonabliness, please forgive me for posting on www.ads-software.com about MU when it should have been posted on the mu.wordpress. But I had no idea MU was an entirely different website with it’s own seperate forum. Sorry. And it is perfectly understandable why the moderator at wp.org would close threads at wr.org pertaining to MU……. but how was I to know? Now I know.
Now about this thread which I hope won’t be closed due to not being posted in the right spot, or that the content might be in violation of any rules, I truly apologize for my transgressions that moderators are so careful in reviewing all my posts here, as you have done to bring attention again in summary that posts have been closed, yet one post was successful, when most people reading my posts already know they were closed, to perhaps indicate again I have lack of concern for this forum, in adhearing to rules etc, again I apoligize. I am truly sorry. No need to summurize my transgressions. I only asked here if IM services were available so that one might communicate with a moderator about information that could not be relayed once the thread was closed, as it was apparent the moderator didn’t know NS had reqs. unlike other hosting services perhaps.
So now I know you can’t IM a moderator off line, and it was recommended I make a general post about information I found about the one post that was closed, pertaining to utilizing IP address in the wp-config file for installs at Network solutions, I hope this should suffice for all involved that all matters about closed threads are finally over and since one is unable to communicate via IM with a moderator, even after a thread has been closed to the bettermnet of WP and in the sake of understanding important informatin perhaps, nothing else needs talked about regarding the above matters. And if you choose to close this thread for some violation, then that’s OK as I have no more infomation to provide even if this thread is LOCKED, for some unknown reason.
Again, so sorry for any post not placed in the correct forum.
I truly appreciate all the fine work moderators are doing, including offering advice, all while ending the thread as the advice warrents the conversation might be ended, or picked up in a different spot on one of your forums.

In reply to: I have no idea what php is or how to use it.I just did this to make it work after 10 hours of head scratching.
On your box, put the zip file in folder.. unzip it.
Go to your cpanel at your host and create a database with you as user. Leave database alone.
Create folder via ftp under your domain where you want your blog to host. Name it whatever you want. Mydomain.com/blog which might translate to Mydomain.com/htdocs/blog at ftp access etc.
Open wp-config.php on your box in dreamweaver and edit in your database info, user name, password etc. (I used the ip address of the database for my database location which I didn’t have this info, your location might be different pending your hosting service. –the IP you type in IE to access myphpadmin) Save file.
Ftp all the files from WP to that folder you created (blog etc).
Go to address line in IE and type your info such as: mydomain.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php When you see WP you will be smiles and giggles. OH, when you enter in username, make sure you be creative as it locks down. I’m stuck with admin for usname.
(I have no idea why they make this so complicated: Just write what I need to do as I need to do it and leave out the rest.)
Hope I got it all right! Cheers.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farIf it only takes 5 minutes to install this, then at $200 working rate hour, is there anyone who can install this for me in five minutes for $20 via paypal? I can provide cpanel and ftp access. All the files are there and wp-config has been changed. Sorry but the amount of time I’m spending on this is waaaaaay too much. Hope this is posted in correct place. If not please advise where I might post for help. I’m done working on this myself. Just too difficult. Thanks

In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farIf you’ve installed WP there in 5 minutes then I need to know what you did. As I’ve followed all directions in doing so. There is a reason IE will not read mydomaincom/WPress etc when the files are all in WPress folder under htdocs. Could WP zip been corrupted upon zip, the reason it’s not working?
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farAs above, I’ve already done that. subfolder is in the htdocs folder and nothing happens when accessing file via IE. Is there any hosting services that deal specifically with WP who can aid in getting this loaded as I’m now at 10 hours fooling with this. Network Solutions obviously can’t handle these files or activity as their service in cpanel is also hung up…processing as it says in their open source section/ database for nearly 4 days now the reason I tried doing it myself which resulted in coming here. thanks for you help thus far.

In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farI know how to use https://ftp..
I’m hosting multiple websites under one accout that has its own web domain. If I upload WP to my main acct, won’t it overwrite my main website, ie index.htm? I thought this should work under any /blog, or as I have it /WPress directory in main account. Just want to find out before I put the whole thing in there with index.htm etc. Don’t want splash page to dissapear. Should I try it?
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farThat is where it is, plus it’s under htdocs too. I checked the script with above link and it’s correct. NS is not letting me see file via IE. Perhaps they won’t allow script to be read or it requires some other type of script to produce the results we’re looking for.

In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farI tried loading WP through Netsols feature but it froze up the reason I’m here. Currently, I have an open trouble ticket with them and supposedly their engineers are looking into it. I’ll put files under htdocs and give it a whirl. tks.

In reply to: 5minute install = 5hours and nothing so farI extracted on home computer, then uploaded all files as they were? Is that what I was suppose to do? I even tried to unzip wordpresszip on server but couldn’t find a way to do that. There’s something missing in the instructions or I’m missing something? https://www.charterview.com/WPress
