  • I had a hard time figuring out what the site is about. I see ads and more ads and ads about doing your own ads. You need content before ads make any money. And perhaps it is a temp problem but the site was really slow when I saw it.

Wow, fantastic theme and organization of cats and pages. Very nice work.

The only thing I’m waiting for is some money. I plan on making it a low budget trip (Reykjavik card + local food) but I’m still about $1K short.

I hope the “dumbing of Iceland” doesn’t happen too fast. That is what happened to Canada and it is very sad to see. Take some of the culture if you must but go your own way as you’ve been so far. Ya’ll have a good thing going there and I’ll cry if it becomes just another state. The only “ancient” Icelandic culture I want to read about is the sagas. I like what I see so far of that magical island.

It would be a lot easier to install MySQL on the same server as the MS SQL. They can coexist just fine.

Well in short, clean air and water, power of nature, beauty of nature, sounds and smells. I want to see a geothermal plant and a district heating system. I want to relax in an outdoor swimming pool heated by nature. I want to hear the language spoken in context. I want to see how long term considerations (like geo systems) compare to our short term mindset (consume, toss, and buy again). I want to get a feel for that mindset and if it is as I imagine.

I feel drawn to Iceland and have so for a long time. I had another dream about being there last night.

    As for my site….

Thank you for looking! Indeed the weather wasn’t right, NOAA has been having problems and stations outside of N.A. don’t get updated for days. For now I’ve replaced weather with wunderground buttons, but I like the look of the other. Now it says you are at 8C and typically overcast. We’re at -3C here and dropping fast toward -19C by tonight. brrrrrr.

hehe, “Well, on with the butter” / “J?ja, en áfram med sm j?rid”. Just for you folks my Icelandic cousins. ??

I hope to make my visit by Spring.

No more comments? I got hits but few comments. Is it butt ugly, disfunctional, confusing, or just boring?

wow, that was nice of you!
so far I’m getting a blank page when I add the require statement.
I dropped the .php & css into my theme dir and added the require statement (I also tried include_once(dirname(__FILE__) . '/webdezine_list_menu.php');)

Not sure what you mean by this:

I meant WP in general is easy to add code snippets to.

But yeah, lots of servers still run PHP4 without fear…

Like Handy said, beyond the scope of a simple forum question. You can find tons of info about monetizing a site. It’s not a new idea…..

But yes, all the usual ways of chasing money on a site will work on WP.

ouch. the muskokee menu looked hopeful. I read the whole thing and at the end, found that it only works with php 5+.. (hint, put that tidbit higher in the text so that fewer hearts are broken. ?? )

I’m new to WP but it looks flexible enough to add code snippets to the theme. google, get, enjoy.

I did the same thing when somehow I ran a 2.0.7 upgrade script. *oops*
The pages were still there but the post_type field said post instead of page. Change the field to ‘page’, edit and save the page. Your pages are then back.

Pretty nice and interesting. It wasn’t slow but maybe the pages are rather long (many posts per page)? Also, you might check your version and make sure you’re secure.

Creative, I like it on first glance.

Tell you what, I’ll trade you comments. Check out mine (I won’t spam your post but I’m easy to find [IcelandDreams post])

It is more likely that the server is insecure, not WordPress. If you google the domain you come up with a lot of Index pages giving the curious a lot of information they shouldn’t have. The Apache version is old. There are likely directories with insecure settings. If the site is on a hosted server then someone with shell or directory access can read your config file and get to the database.

I would be looking at the server setup and who can get to it from a site on the same server.

Today I made a trip to a Windoze machine and discovered that IE6 wasn’t rendering many of the images. I’ve now “dumbed down” the CSS so that it works even on a crippled browser such as IE. That was pretty funny.. No wonder I wasn’t getting many return visits.

I’d appreciate any comments on the site. https://iceland.intracore.com
