FYI – I had a similar issue and found that the hosting account was setup to use PHP 5.4. I upgraded to 5.6 and that fixed the issue.
However, you’ll want to make sure and check the site over very thoroughly afterward to make sure that your site supports it.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Yoast SEO] Yoast SEO & GoDaddy – Sitemap IssueFYI – It appears I’ve found a workaround – I don’t know if it will last, but I’ve found that in the interim, going into the site via FTP, and renaming the “Drop-In” plugin file object-cache.php to object-cache.php.test.
The site still appears to function normally, from what I can tell, but I can now get the sitemap loaded into Search Console without issue.
I’m not sure if this solution would be frowned upon by GoDaddy or not. They may even change it back if they notice it, but at least I can get my site indexed in the interim.
Hi, Lou – you could probably just use FTP to go into the following directory:
“/var/sites/s/societyofselfesteem.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/plugins”
and rename the “wordfence” folder to something like “wordfence.old”.
Then, just go back into your WP admin area and the plugin should install.
Katrina,
I’ve been following these threads for several days and just recalled seeing one with the same issue (since I have approximately 3 sites that have the same issue).
You’re very welcome. Have a great weekend!
This problem has been reported a couple of times. See here for some responses from the WordFence employees:

hmkay – I believe “Disable Config Caching” is located at the bottom of the Diagnostics page. You might check there.
Hey Steve,
The “Disable Config Caching” option is at the bottom of the Diagnostics page, not the options page.
Not sure if it will fix your issue, but I thought it might point you in the right direction at least.
Just an FYI – I have 5-10 sites on HostGator, and I did not have any issue on any of them.
I do recall within the last year or two there was a notice sent out by HostGator about PHP 5.4 and setting it manually, so you could test your site before they upgraded others.
Maybe your sites were manually set to 5.2? Just a thought.
Hi Jay,
I have one site that I took over admin on that is on Bluehost. I didn’t have any trouble getting the Firewall activated on it – I do believe I had to wait a few minutes and refresh the page in order to get it to activate, but that was it.
This probably doesn’t help you much, but I thought I’d let you know my experience.
I completely agree with Scott. Eventually, it’s going to have to be done, because the site as-is is a ticking time bomb.
I’ve never had anyone hack the core directly, but I have had someone directly modify template files for the theme. So, I had to create a child theme after I figured out which files were actually modified.
So, I can feel your pain. Definitely something that should be done though. Good luck!
