You pointed out two possible causes:
1. the case of your host not letting the RSS feeds in like that.
2. It means you have no incoming links.

Is there a definitive answer for this kind of problem? It’s hard to believe that WordPress would change in such an ugly way the message you get when there are no incoming links…

Just wanted to let you know that the update to version 4.0.2 (with WordPress 3.3.1) finally left my settings/translations intact ??

Hi. You may easily change the text that shows in the plugin’s options page. It’s really easy, though keep in mind that the translated texts are usually lost when you upgrade the plugin.

Actually, the backups were created successfully in both cases (after two ‘warming up’ tries in the first case).

It’s just that the email is not being sent and it temporarily crashed WP in one case.

By mistake I added comments to another thread about half an hour ago, so now I will post them here:

Strange thing happened…

I updated to 1.6.2, hit the button to start a backup, it changed to Starting Backup, and then died. That happened twice, with no backups done and no temporary files being created (checked with FileZilla).

Yet the third time around it worked, sort of ??

It made the backup, but did not delete the .backup_running file and I am still waiting for the email. The back weights 16.7mb and I waited for about 15 minutes, so maybe it will still come in a while.

Besides, I tried updating the other website mentioned before and after creating the backup (first try), when it tried to send it, WordPress failed:

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 61341696) (tried to allocate 20487392 bytes) in /home/ideariu/public_html/es/wp-includes/class-phpmailer.php on line 1495

Just in case it’s useful, the URL at the moment of the crash was /wp-admin/tools.php?page=backupwordpress&action=hmbkp_backup_now.

The backup weighted 15mb.

You’re welcome. Just one more thing: the error message went away once I deleted the file “/wp-content/backups/.backup_errors”.

Hi, Tom. It’s good to know about the update.

Just updated the version I installed yesterday at a new website and at a another one I had from earlier. My findings:

– The number of backups to keep is lost and returns to 10.
– Backups failed. There are no new files at /wp-content/backups.
– Emails were sent telling the backups finished OK, yet they didn’t.
– Emails said the backup should be attached, yet they weren’t.
– In every case, a warning was displayed at the end and it doesn’t go away and has no “hide” or “dismiss” link/button. I logged out and logged in again and it is still there ??

The warning message in one case included each file in the directories I had excluded:

BackUpWordPress detected that your last backup failed.

zip: Backup file doesn't contain the the following files: wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/404.php, wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/...

In the other case I had no excluded directories, yet one plugin returned errors:

BackUpWordPress detected that your last backup failed.

php: 8:Undefined index: solo-comment-subscribe:/home/AAAAAA/public_html/es/wp-content/plugins/subscribe-to-comments/subscribe-to-comments.php(852) : runtime-created function:1

I can only wish I have the those particular brain connections needed to be a programmer ??

My work is usually between programmers and users, detecting and understanding needs from both sides, /translating/ them and designing interfaces.
