  • Ah, my mistake – I thought you meant 200 spam comments, not blogs! Sorry, I can’t help you there. You’d probably need a script that would scan each db in the list and change the status of the comments based on certain criteria. I wouldn’t even know where to start.

What version of WP are you running?

With version 1.5, the easiest way is through the Options -> Discussion page. Under the Comment Moderation section, you can enter keywords that will identify the spam comments (you can even use their IP addresses). After you click on the Update Options button, you can then press “Check past comments against moderation list” and it will give you the option to move all matching comments into moderation. Go over to the Manage – Awaiting Moderation page and trash them all.

I’ve deleted a few hundred this way in a past attack. But be careful that you don’t accidentally trash valid comments. You might want to backup the database before doing this.

I’m rather confused here. From what I can tell, Anonymous is completely right. He/she has pointed out that no-follow will only affect links in comments, which would be the links that really shouldn’t have much to say about PageRank (that is, IMHO). But the no-follow will not be used in links posted on the sidebar or in posts. That means that links the author chooses to link to will still be followed by GoogleBot, while links that other people post will not.

Is this correct, or am I misunderstanding something here?

Thank you mucho dougal. I was very slowly coming to think along those lines, and now that you confirmed it I got around to trying it. Now if only I hadn’t screwed up my database, the whole process wouldn’t have taken 4 hours. But that’s why we do backups (especially when working with betas).

I’m definitely on the right path, now.

I think motoed is trying to do the same thing that I want to do. And pingomatic looks exactly like it. Does anybody know how that was doen, or should I try contacting Dougal directly?

“By their nature these releases are unstable and should not be used anyplace where your data is important.”

That’s from the download page pointing to where the nightlies are kept. It is Beta software no matter how many people decide to use it on their “production” site. If you want to make sure that you get all of the latest information on those builds, you should be subscribed to the Beta e-mail list.

I’m not trying to scold you here or anything, but you cannot expect the dev team to make announcements to the general public regarding every change (even big ones) they make to alpha and beta software. That will all be made known when the official 1.5 release comes out. In other words, yes a “heads up” is too much to ask.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that I’m obviously not speaking for the developers here, just general beta practices. I’ve lost enough data in situations like that to know backups are essential.

No problem. Go to https://neverhood.net/blog/about/ and you can find my e-mail address there. I’ll try to take a look at it ASAP.

Darn it Joen. I was looking at your site as an example too. That’s how I’d like to organize my site, but I’m also hoping to use WP “pages” to do the work for me. I just assumed that you would have figured it out by now ??

I chose b2 because it was OpenSource and php/mySQL based. I had looked at a couple others (such as MT and Greymatter), but I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of using Perl, etc. I liked the idea of dynamically creating the pages, and b2 was easy to setup and use. When WP was announced as the official successor, it was a no-brainer for me to switch.

Shouldn’t the link on the sidebar be to https://www.7seconden.be/links.php? I could be wrong, but that seems to be the issue.

Tek, you’re correct about the error message not being right. But I’m not sure what you mean by “the picture isn’t showing up on the blog”. Do you have a link to the test post we can look at?

You do not need to update the .htaccess after each post. You only need to update it if you create a page or change the permalink structure.

Beel, thanks for the SQL command above. I almost freaked out when all of my comments disappeared, but that did the trick.
As per your other question, after updating the Discussion option page, I lose the checks on those two options no matter what I do. The first one (“Attempt to notify…”), however, can be set and unset.

Not sure I understand, are you trying to indent the source code itself in the XHTML, or how it appears on your webpage?

Yeah, the only real problem is with the pictures being stretched. They fit the design there, but the pixelation from the stretching is a little distracting. See if you can effectively enlarge them with another program, or else just get bigger ones.
I totally dig the text fade-in effect – how did you do that (I haven’t even glanced at any code right now).
I like the contractible (sp?) menues, but you might be able to make them integrate a bit better. Maybe a simple box around it entirely, or just a shaded backgrounded could help draw them away from the content itself.
Overall a very nice job, I’ll take a quick look at the forums later.
