We’ve got the same issue, and we’ve even tried removing the whole call in the theme which removes WP canonical and put in Genesis canonical links (we’re using a Child theme in Genesis). That made no difference, and we’ve still got 4k+ duplicate titles and descriptions in webmasters.

How did you sort this?

That’s a shame. Autoplay with sound on is too intrusive for readers, but the added dynamism of autoplaying a video in the sidebar with the sound defaulting to off would be great.

We’ve had the same problem on a couple of WP installations. Weirdly – in hope rather than anything else – we tried using auto-update through Chrome instead of Firefox. Worked on every one!

Steve – this is a damned cheek, but….

AIOSEO changed how they store the Meta Description. It is now stored in a database as aioseop_description. Which screws up what you kindly did for us with the php to pull the meta description in as text on our post snippets. How do we go about incorporating this?

Worked perfectly, and now all our category pages show the Meta Description as well as a thumbnail, which should make them more appealing to our readers and the search engines.

That would be much easier! But php is not my strong point. What would be the correct format to replace ‘the_excerpt’?

Nor do I, Ivovic. The fact a re-install resolved it tends to point to a WP issue. WP is great, but can be incredibly frustrating when these sort of issues arise. But, solved for now – until the next time!

Having pursued the host relentlessly, with a categoric insistence from them that no changes had been made to MySQL or PHP in the period the error started, I decided the only thing I could do was to re-install WP. I have. The problem has now gone. But I have no idea why!

Fortunately, all my theme files are OK. I have even uploaded ‘clean’ versions to no avail. I’m sure it must be a MySQL issue, but my MySQL knowledge is very limited!

I’m with you, and I am hustling the hosts. I suppose I was hoping there was another possibility. You seem to have reached the same conclusion as me.
I had a similar issue with posts on the index page duplicating a month or so ago, but upgrading solved that. Odd.

Nor I, but they are adamant! They’re running 5.0.20a but claimed not to have changed anything. Cached version of the latest post shows all was OK yesterday – but something’s happened.

I did wonder, but our hosts say there have been no updates over the weekend. I suppose I was clutching at straws looking for possibilities.
