In reply to: [Rufous] Most invasive theme everHello @bviktor,
We are truly sorry to hear about the frustrating experience you had with the Rufous theme and Kubio plugin.
When you activate the Rufous theme, you’ll see a notice in the admin area offering to set up a homepage tailored to your website’s industry. This step is entirely optional and can be skipped if you prefer to configure everything manually.
If you chose to proceed with the setup, the process involves installing the Kubio plugin to create the homepage layout and content. As part of this setup, it also:
- Adds a suggested menu with new items.
- Creates example pages to match the homepage design.
- Sets the newly created homepage as your site’s default.
- Installs the Contact Form 7 plugin to add a contact form to the homepage.
We understand that these changes can feel disruptive, especially if you weren’t expecting them. However, no existing content is deleted during this process. You can always revert to your original setup by:
- Reactivating your previous theme.
- Setting your old homepage back as the default in Settings > Reading.
- Your previous menus and widgets should restore automatically, as they are tied to the theme’s menu locations and widget settings.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this caused. Our goal is to make it easier to start with a pre-designed site, especially for new websites, but we recognize it may not suit everyone’s needs.
Thank you for giving Rufous a try, and we hope you’ll reconsider using it in the future.
Best regards
Hi @seriqulle,
We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the issue.
Cross-site scripting is usually performed on websites where users are registered and have some sort of basic access or privileges, such as Contributors. You can try disabling user registration on your websites if it’s not something that you need. This can be done from your WP Admin Panel > Settings > General page, by unchecking the Membership option (Anyone can register).
Once we have more information, we’ll patch the issue and release an update.
Thank you, and we apologize for any inconvenience!
Hello @richieb799,
First off all I want to apologize for any inconvenience you have with our product.
I want to let you know that we are not forcing updates on the plugin, nor we are restricting your website functionality if you are not a PRO customer. Most probably the issues you encounter with the latest version of Kubio are due to a conflict with another plugin, that needs further investigation.
Until then, please make sure that WordPress built-in features to auto-update are turned off in WP-Admin -> Plugins for the Kubio plugin.

Also, if you made changes to the theme ( like editing the functions.php file ), and then update it all the changes will be overridden, as the entire theme folder will be replaced with the one from the updated version ( this is the default WordPress behavior ). Please make sure that the auto-update feature is turned off for the theme too.

The latest version of Kubio adds support for WordPress 6.4 and above, and AI capabilities that we are gradually rolling out.
After the large influx of users passes, we might take a look at why the latest version of Kubio is breaking your website, you can also contact us directly at [email protected]
Please let me know if disabling the auto-update feature fixes your issue, and let me know if there is anything else we can help with.
