I have the same problem as well as I received this message when manually generate critical css for my site:

CSS Failed to generate Critical CSS

An unexpected error has occurred. As this error may be temporary, please try and refresh the Critical CSS.

@shetheliving thank you. Ah yes when I click the link to site kit management as per request, I received message: 502 Over Quota as well.

Just got the same problem with my site. After checking everything. I found this script in wordpress index.php file not in template index file.

try to check .. index, header or any file you think the script could be added.

I was having the same problem yesterday. I turn the permalinks to default save it and then re-custom again as I wish. and it solved.
