  • Try to re-upload the image in a smaller resolution. I know that I used to get the same/similar error and once I started uploading images with a smaller resolution it seemed to work fine.
Maybe you need a higher resolution, which is fine. What I have found is that if i upload the images in a low resolution, let nextgen create the thumbs and then overwrite the pics (using FTP) with the higher resolution pics (keeping the same name obviously) everything works as well. I only do that when i really want a highres pic; otherwise, i just upload my pics with a max width of 1024 (and let the height scale accordingly) which is plenty big for my needs.

Yes, please do tell what was causing the problem and how you were able to fix it.

Yep, you guys are right, that must have gotten placed in there by accident. I was thinking it was an index of some sorts that correlated the pictures to the thumbs but i am guessing that is done by names. One thing I figured out is that it is not enough to place the full resolution pictures in the main folder and the thumbnail in the /thumbs folder but you still have to scan the folder for new files. It will tell me it could not create the thumbnails for the files which is OK since I already did that, but until I did that process the new pics would not show up in the gallery, just in case anyone is wondering.

I have not solved the issue but I was able to work around the issue by only adding 60-65 pictures into the gallery at a time and then scanning the gallery folder for new pics. This would allow NextGen to properly create the thumbnails without hanging. When I did larger amounts (not sure on the exact breaking point) NextGen would hang at some point after hitting so many pictures (or possibly bytes of information). So after about 10 or 11 sessions of uploading pictures to the gallery and creating thumbnails I was able to complete the gallery with about 650 pictures.
Is this a problem that I can avoid somehow and should I be able to upload all 650 pictures into the gallery and create the thumbs at one time? Does anyone else run into this problem?
    Thanks

Sorry I should have marked this as resolved a while ago. The theme i was using had an opacity rule in it. Once i changed that to not show any opacity all was fine.

I figured the images were too large to work with based on the memory my hosting service was allocating, that is why I reduced all of them. I have about 13 different galleries and I use the image size 1024×768 for all of my pics. This has worked well for me until I tried it with this latest album. I was wondering if it was because of the amount of pictured I want to include in this album. My previous albums have no more than 60 pictures while this one has over 500. It will start to process the pictures I have uploaded just like normal, bet everytime it reaches 11% or so, it just quits processing. It does not give me an error or anything, it just sits at 11% and does not create anymore thumbnails. When I look in the /Thumbs folder for that gallery it will show me several thumbnails but it is definately not a complete list. I have no idea why it quits processing photos, I have not had any troubles in my previous galleries using 1024×768 photos.
    any ideas on that?
    Thanks,

OK I will try to convince him to do so. Wasn’t sure if it was something obvious or not. I have conviced him to purchase a hosting service, he just isn’t quite sure about how to start with upgrading from 1.5 to current and then transferring everything over to the hosting service. Are there any ways that are better than others. Sorry for changing the subject a little but I was hoping to pick your brain since I am pretty new with WP. And thanks for the previous solution his RSS is working great now, just disabled the plugins he wasn’t using and one of those was the culpret.

Thanks that helped and fixed my first friend’s site but I am not sure what to tell my other friend. It looks like his HTML generates incomplete links, which makes sense to why my RSS shows the articles but not the proper links. I have no idea how to fix that. But like I said the first problem is solved and that really helped, thanks.

Make sure your folder name is nggallery it usually changes it during upgrade and you have to change it back.
    Hopefully that is the problem

I have figured out that it is the theme I am using and not the actual gallery update. Howerver, I would still like to keep using this theme if anyone has any suggestion on what may be causeing the problem I would love to hear them.

OK so now i feel pretty stupid, i seem to have solved it. On the developer’s page it says to use the format

    [flashvideo filename=videos/my-video.flv /]

But in another forum i found the following call and this format worked

    [flashvideo filename=[flashvideo filename=https://mydevsite/wp-content/plugins/flash-video-player/video3.xml /]

Not sure what the dif is but the second one works for me.
    Thanks

I am not sure exactly what you mean, do you get a working gallery. I am currently running that version just fine (I think). I do know however that my album IDs are numbers and not what I called the album

    [album=3,compact]

Also when editing a gallery I had to specify which picture I wanted as a thumbnail. I did that by choosing ‘edit gallery’ when i was viewing the gallery under ‘manage gallery’ if that makes any sense. It all seems to work, I use the extend album option so i can write a description next to each gallery but it is still the same principle. It all seems to work fine for me. Hope this helped. Sorry if it did not.
