Thanks for getting back with me on this. I did figure out that if the image is not resized, then the background does not turn white and transparency is preserved.

Thanks for the tip for uploading the appropriately sized image. That will work for me.

I’m fairly new and learning so I’m not sure about WordPress’s graphic rendering systems it uses. In that vein, I hope that my host server will upgrade to the newest version. It seems like this type of issue should not be.
