    Hi

I look after a number of sites and can not remember which this was for.

The answer is either no, my hosting site does not allow chron tasks and therefore will not let BackWPUp do it’s thing.

Or yes, I swapped out the plugin to Backdraft Plus which uploads in chunks avoiding the time out issue.

The date of my post makes me think it is the former unfortunately. But I find backdraft plus to be a bit more reliable with the sites I have it installed on.

    Hope that helps.

This worked perfectly. Problem solved, thank you.

Thanks. I checked them out, also downloaded the plugin that checks how long things are taking. Jetpack seemed slowest. The thing is that it is not consistent. Sometimes, after loading up really slowly, things start working well, across all pages. Then boom, it starts crawling and giving me a blank white screen again.

Could it be something left in the old site folder? As mentioned above? If there is a .htaccess file in there or a wp-config file could that be causing an issue?

    hi

    Thanks again for your help.

I have cleared out the FTP. Done a clean install and added a clean theme download.

Would the hacker have accessed my database or would they have just targeted the WP files on the FTP site??

Would I need to restore the database from backup or can I use the database that is there currently? If I need to go from backup I might just start from scratch, not too much of a big deal as my site was very simple and I had only just started it.

Worth noting that I amended the sql pre-fixes to not be wp_ So my WordPress has not picked up on them and installed a whoe new array of wp_ prefix files on the database. Just as well if your answer is to ‘not use’ the existing ones.

Do I not need my site up and running before I go through the security process? Or should I just start from scratch?

I have downloaded some security plugins to get the process started.

    Here is the url

    https://www.chooseyoungmedia.com

That porn link list was happening prior to me trying to install the backup. I think the backup is clean.

I am new to WP and did not have any security measures in place. Just struggling my way through all that stuff now. The backup I have is from when the site was okay.

The url above now just has nothing but my blank theme installed. It’s not pulling in any pages, posts or other content.

    Thank you for your help.

Ran the check. It is all clear. I think it might not have been on the old site info but the backed up site info that is on there now seems clean.

I have looked at the FTP and it seems all of my old stuff is in there, at least the themes and any images I uploaded are. But I assume the other content is not …. is that th stuff in the database?

I logged into my web host admin area and it looks like my stuff is in the sql database.

Maybe the site is just not looking at the database?

    Hi

I am not sure what has happened with that site now. I started having issues with it directing to a page branded as my host site with some links to porn. I deleted the cgi-bin folder and also my www folder that contains all of my WP files from my ftp site, and replaced with the same folders from my backup.

Then when I visited my URL it asked me to re-install WP. I did that and now can’t see any of my site info. I think I have everything backed up. The folders listed above and also a database zip file. I am not sure what to do now.

I have just looked on my ftp and it seems the theme and all the images I used are still there. Just the pages and posts that are not.

I have another WordPress site that I just installed the plugin on. That one seems to work fine.

One thing that might be a cause of the issue is …. on the initial site I installed the plugin as you would a normal plugin. After it did not work I read the install instructions. I realised that you had requested the zip file be unparcelled, and the MVIS folder be uploaded to the plugins folder manually. So, I deactivated and deleted the plugin, then installed as requested. Still did not work though. I contacted you after that.

    Hi Stefan

There was a .htaccess file in my ‘www’ folder on the server. I removed it.

There was a couple of plugins activated. (Jetpack and WP Backup). I de-activated those.

I checked the ajax.php address and it showed a white screen and a ‘0’ in the top left hand corner.

I re-ran the MVIS plugin …. takes around 90 seconds – 2 minutes to get to the screen telling me there are some issues.

I click on the Core Issues tab and the screen then goes white again (still has Dashboard on the left though). This takes a similar amount of time, maybe longer, as the initial check.

Once the Core Check screen opens I have a bunch of Green, Orange and Red Dots in the various File / Backend /System areas.

If I hover over one of the green dot ‘i’ icons it gives the No Risk message, if I click on it
I instantly get a black screen, white square, very very brief orange spinning timer and then in under a second the information appears.

If I hover over the arrows icon it gives me the issues identified message. If I click on it I I instantly get a black screen, white square, orange spinning timer and then no information.

I have previously left this spinning orange timer for over half an hour but get nothing back.

    Thanks guys.

secconsult I have downloaded your MVIS Plugin and am running it now. Does it do everything the others do? Or should I be using mulitple plugins for different security?

Andrew Bartel That;s great, I already have DropBox and having badgered friends into using it have built up qute a few GB of space. Does this BackWP Up do both my ftp files and the database?

Thanks, I will get the database backed up too.

Is there an aoutmated way to do this regularly?

Also, the plugins like Bulletproof Security or Better WP Security are they worth adding too?

    Hi

    Thanks for your help.

That link gives me two examples highlighted in red.

I use Easypace as a host for my webspace. I have not made any changes recently and my portfolio link worked before.
