YEs, I agree that it would be nicer if my links looked consistent. That is what i am striving for…

Can you explain how the 301 redirect happens? is that supposed to be automatic? or is there something that I have to do?

And how do I check my server configuration beforehand to figure out if it will work PRIOR to doing the change?

My blog is set up to appear like this:
https://www.domain.com/news/

currently, if I make a new page it will appear like this:

https://www.domain.com/news/the_page/

but I would like to have it appear like so:
https://www.domain.com/the_page/

while keeping my blog outside the main directory.

Does anyone know how to force WordPress pages to have a different URI?

I have used a trick like that elsewhere in my site which works well if i want to redirect from

https://domain.com/info/
to
https://domain/blog/info/

If I cant find a way to FORCE pages to appear in the main directory I will use that trick. What i am looking for is a way to preserve the old URI addresses rather than re-direct to new ones.
