In reply to: [Tooltipy (tooltips for WP)] Very happy to find this, great supportThanks for that information about the pro version. Regarding the pricing, how much does it cost annually to renew the license for continued upgrades? Do you offer a discount for renewals, or is it the full purchase price?

In reply to: [Display Widgets] Version 2.7 doesn’t installI have repeatedly tried to upgrade to version 2.7. Like @stevewest15, I’d like to know why WP downloads version 2.05 (which I understand is safe) instead of downloading 2.7 when I upgrade the plugin. Editing the files to change the version number does not make a lot of sense when we don’t understand why the wrong version has been downloaded in the first place.
It has nothing to do with the server cache which I have purged, along with clearing my browser cache. But the problem persists.
I agree with @nathair – I also am no fan of jetpack which you mentioned somewhere, it is bloatware i.m.h.o.
Even though I don’t have the malicious code on my website, I’d like to get rid of this plugin. I intend to replace it with David Law’s Display Widgets Plus. But first, I’d like to get to the bottom of why the WordPress upgrade is failing to download the right version. Why are so many people having this problem?

In reply to: [Uber Login Logo] Major Security Risk due to abandoned pluginI understand what you are saying about the fact that the code being old doesn’t mean it is necessarily a major (or minor) security risk.
However, this still leaves unresolved questions around this question of abandoned plugins in general (and not just a particular one):-
- Is it possible that an abandoned plugin has some vulnerability in the code which might only become obvious in future releases of WordPress? Or when someone discovers/notices a particular vulnerability?
- Who is going to alert us (the users of such plugins) of potential security issues with an abandoned plugin?
- And for users with limited technical skills, how can we tell if the code really is a risk or not?
- Finally, I’d be interested to read what the WordFence people had to say. @jdembowski, you mentioned a #forums Slack channel. Can you provide a link for this?
I’m beginning to wish that WordPress had a policy around this. Perhaps to require that publishers of plugins on www.ads-software.com are required to submit each release of their code to a repository and sign an agreement to release the license to open source after 2 years of abandonment so that other developers can pick up the ongoing maintenance and support. Does this idea make any sense?

In reply to: [Arconix FAQ] How to format links in accordion style?Hi John
That’s great! Thanks for getting back to me. I’m noticing the formatting problem occurs when I use the “style=accordion” within the shortcode, such as:-
[faq orderby=menu_order style=accordion]
… in which case the styling is different – there are triangles instead of plus signs in the accordion, and the text and links within the FAQ content are not formatted according to my theme’s style.
Just thought I’d mention that in case you ever want to look into it.

In reply to: [WP FullCalendar] How do I change the height of the fullcalendar? Thanks so much, @soleguia. Just what I needed ??
Thanks so much, I’ll work on that!
Hi,
When I “Perform Scan Now”, it says:
All In One WP Security & Firewall has detected that there was a change in your host’s files. Then when I view the changes, it says:-
There have been no file changes since the last scan.
But it lists 10 old file changes in the Scan Results on screen. But in my email, there are hundreds listed. It fills up my php-error log with details about:
“WordPress database error Got a packet bigger than ‘max_allowed_packet’ bytes for query UPDATEecmu_aiowps_global_meta
SETdate_time

In reply to: [Delightful Downloads] Opening in a new tabThanks for the suggestion! I will experiment on my test site with rewrite rules – great idea.

In reply to: [Delightful Downloads] Opening in a new tabI just want something simpler than “https://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/delightful-downloads/something.pdf” or “https://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/something.pdf”. The “uploads/downloads” bit is rather ridiculous, and I don’t particularly like displaying the WordPress content path.
By the way, I just found this post on how to change the downloads URL in WordPress … perhaps it’s worth trying out on a test copy of my website.
I would appreciate your further comments or suggestions.

In reply to: [Delightful Downloads] Opening in a new tabHi Ashley
I would happily settle on being able to change the Upload Directory to a newly created subdirectory of my root directory, e.g. https://mydomain/downloads.
Is that a possible work-around?
Currently under Advanced Settings, I cannot do this. (All “/” characters are stripped away if I attempt to enter the full URL).

In reply to: 4.1 slug issue when same title exists in media libraryOh, Lou, what a nightmare indeed! You have my total sympathy.
I’m so sorry to hear the instructions didn’t work for you, and now I wonder whether I was in error when I referred to changing the image ‘title’ in my instructions.
WordPress allows us to change a value called ‘title’ (which must be a metadata title and not the image filename) while the permalink stays the same.
It is a while back since this error occurred, and I cannot accurately remember whether I had to change only the image title, or whether I had to change the image permalink. I think it my case, it may have only been only the image title which was causing the conflict. But it may be that that my image title was different from the image filename within the permalink. The only way I know to effectively change the image filename or permalink is to upload another copy of the image that has already been renamed.
I hope the WordPress developers pick this problem up, and test it for conflicts with both the image title and the image permalink.
May I suggest anyone else having this problem looks at both their image title and permalink?
