Many thanks for all your help, I sent all those tips to the hosting guys and eventually they managed to sort it out.

I don’t have access to the logs but if you tell me what they need to look for I can ask them to do it. I can also direct them to that link. I did check the file permissions but not the ownership frankly this bit scares me “you probably should not mess with this”

changing it to the default seems to have worked, how weird. I haven’t touched that site for 2 years and suddenly it went wrong, many thanks

I had a similar problem where my theme was not compatible with 3.5 i followed the instructions for ‘white screen of death’ which was a nightmare as i am not a developer but i just did it bit by bit EXACTLY as suggested. then i contacted the developer of the theme and got a compatible version

Good point, 3.5 gave me all sorts of problems with my own websites, took ages to sort out. I bet it is is that.

Do I try it on the more complicated ones?

To be honest I am getting out of my depth, I am not a developer and I am located in Egypt with speeds slightly slower than dial up. I have tried everything I have mentioned above. I have googled for instructions and followed them religiously but I don’t know javascript and I am very nervous of fiddling to that degree.

Is there an easy way of going back to the previous version.

Otherwise can someone recommend me a developer who won’t charge me a fortune, I work in tourism and you can imagine how much money we have in Egypt to spend on things like this.

I used to love wordpress, now I hate it

OK I have had another go, I have several sites that are effected. This one https://www.holidaysinluxor.co.uk is a non critical site and has a standard theme. It did have three plugins Better WP Security, Disable Comments and WordPress Firewall. These have all been deactivated, the plugins folder has been renamed and a new one created, the theme has been changed, I have reinstalled wordpress 3.5 AND I STILL CAN’T EDIT.

What next?
