Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Is it just me? or ..I have decided that it’s just not going to work trying to set something up on my computer, it’s just too difficult and I have wasted a lot of time which could have been sent creating content pages!
The only reason I was looking at www.ads-software.com software was because I thought I wouldn’t be able to use the wordpress.com software as I want to have a 3rd party clickable map in the site I create.
Do either of you know whether I’d be able to add straight html code into a page for this on a wordpress.com site?
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my dumb questions.

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Hi
Thanks for both replies.
Yes, I reinstalled Xampp and it created Apache and SQL files but I still can’t access wordpress.
I’ve just tried using localhost/phpmyadmin and I get an error
Error
MySQL said:#1045 – Access denied for user ‘root’@’localhost’ (using password: NO)
Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.
phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Well, I am trying again this morning. Have started a new installation but it is failing with web platform instaler program when I try to create a new database.
Getting the error message:
The source is invalid
Cannot connect to the database
Access denied for user “root@localhost” (using password: YES)Tried again a second time but whatever information I put in to create a new database I get the same error, just a different access denied for x@localhost
So, now I really don’t know what to do

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Thanks. Yes, that’s the url I used to download it again this evening but it doesn’t give me the application, it just installs ilivid which does nothing.
So, I’m about to give up on wordpress…………….

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Ahh………not where it installed, I just used an auto installer (probably a bad idea, but easier!)
Have checked C: root directory and cannot see Xampp………drat!
What’s the easiest way of reinstalling Xampp to root C: directory?
wordpress.com will be no good for the website I want to create then as I want to be able to use an interactive map plug in which they don’t have for the country I need (France), although they have Poland – great, or not for me!!
Thanks again for your help. I am determined to beat this snag, so maybe I can with your help, thank you.

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Oops! I’m getting a bit lost now. Should I have Xampp as a folder on my C: drive? What would foldername be after https://localhost/ ?
Last night when I created a shortcut from the url displayed at the top of my wordpress dashboard page it worked. Now it doesn’t. The url was https://localhost:(then a 5 digit number)/wp-admin.php.
But every time I got to this url it says page not found. Some other help suggested to delete temporary internet files and allow cookies, both of which I did but still the same problem.
Is it going to be simpler to create a wordpress.com site? My only concern is that I don’t ultimately want my website to have wordpress.com at the end of it.
If I create a wordpress.com site can I move that to my own domain name when I decide what domain name I want and who I want to host it?
I really appreciate your respones, thanks so much for trying to help.

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Where would the wordpress folder normally live? I can’t see it on my C: drive actually. I have MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server folders.

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Hi, thanks for replying.
I did install Xampp on windows. What’s puzzling is that I got my dashboard up last night but today it’s disappeared into thin air!
I’ve tried reinstalling wordpress but it fails even if I try to use the existing database or create a new one.
Annoying!

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..Great news for you, well done. I don’t want to use wordpress.com for a live site just yet.
I just want to be able to access the local copy of the website dashboard I could access last night but now can’t, so if anyone can help it will stop me getting more and more frustrated.
I am not a computer programmer but I do know how to use CMS’s and websites and so am not dumb but this has me stumped – and several people told me wordpress would be the easiest, cheapest route to take. I remain to be convinced!

In reply to: Is it just me? or ..I’m having similar problems. Yesterday I spent hours downloading a web installer and installing Word Press from www.ads-software.com. I wanted initially to load it on my computer locally until I get a web domain and hosting sorted.
Finally got my Dashboard to come up on the screen, left it on the screen overnight and created a shortcut to the link.
This morning I went to my Dashboard I’d left open but it had disappeared and the shortcut didn’t work.
I have spent several more hours today trying to get the dashboard to open, reinstall wordpress, etc, etc, etc and now I’m stuck
Can anyone help/give me some suggestions?
Thanks
Jane
