    Thanks Robert–

My IE version is new, and I’m really used to it but I may start using Firefox. At some point I’ll re-create one of the glitchy maps in IE and see if that was it.

I’m really liking this plugin because once I found out that I can use the same markers with different scopes of layer maps plus use them separately as stand-alones, that is a huge potential advantage.

One question remains at this time. Your Demo shows a blue round-headed push pin marker – I think the second one in on the top row, 0014-something. There’s also a yellow one and a red one. Where are those? They stand out visually, but don’t get in the way of seeing road names.

    Thanks!

Robert, I’m ducking my head under the table. I think the glitch was some weird thing at my end OR it was something with the Lite version. After my last post, I couldn’t leave it alone so I downloaded the Pro version because I’m liking this plugin as it stands (all except for hover). I then re-booted, plus I switched to Firefox instead of IE which I had been using (latest version though).

In any event, for whichever of the above reasons, now ALL of the maps I had trouble with, I’m re-making without any problem whatsoever. And the Pro version appears like it’s going to be an exciting piece to work with. Maps are critical to my purposes, and now that I understand the advantages to the layer that’s actually going to save me a lot of time.
    Happy Camper.

Okay, there is definitely some sort of glitch. I just created a new Marker Map for Salmon Falls Stoneware, 75 Oak Street, Dover, NH 03820. On Google Maps (going direct to Google), I get the right location. On my Marker Map, however, it again throws my marker into the middle of a State Forest in Bedford, NH which I think may be where it had put the marker for The Woolery (info re that in previous post above).

I tried setting map sources other than Google ((Open Street and MapQuest) and both of them also place the marker in the state forest area instead of where it belongs.

I’m going to hold off making any other maps until you respond. Please try it at your end and see if you get the same thing.

Okay, thanks. Hover is a biggie for a website that is trying to be super, ultra user-friendly because people seem to be weirdly spoilt with how many clicks they have to make. I won’t make it a deal breaker though. Just please consider raising it a teensy notch in the feature planning? ??

While you were sleeping I did test out the universal update in all places a Marker Map shows up, and yup, it sure did work in all instances. Seamlessly, too!

Hi Robert, thanks for prompt answer–

My website is being built so on Maintenance Block but you can recreate the issue and see if you get the same thing. The map that won’t draw on my Map Marker page itself is Parker’s Maple Barn, 1316 Brookline Road, Mason, NH. It WILL, however, come into posts both as an individual map and it also shows up on the layer that has 2 other locations. For what it’s worth, I’ve noticed that the program throws in four forward-slash marks after the word Parker and before the apostrophe upon Save/Update. Just mentioning in case that matters.

The first map that throws its marker into a wonky place is Pickity Place, 248 Nutting Hill Road, Mason, NH. Put that into Google Map’s website and you can see where the marker belongs. Put it into a test Marker Map though, and the marker lands at the end of the street, about a mile away.

The second map throws its marker waaay off track, not even close. That’s The Woolery, 604 Gibbons Highway, Wilton, NH. Entered directly into Google Maps, it lands correctly. Creating a Marker Map with the same address info, however, puts its marker in Bedford, NH, about 45 minutes drive north of where it should be.

I will have to learn not to click near a marker map’s location then. I knew you could drag a marker, but I don’t love it moving off its target via just a click somewhere near it on the map. If it’s only at the back end, I can just be very careful then. ??

One more thing. If I create content in the pop-up for a particular location on its own Marker Map, and I’ve used that marker map in a number of places (by itself in its own posts as well as incorporating this Marker Map into a layer map along with other locations)… if I later make a change in the content of the pop-up by editing it, would all the posts where that Marker Map was used reflect that new change? Remember, those posts would have been made before changing the popup content. So I guess my question is, do maps that were previously created automatically update if a change is made to a Marker Map after it got used? And does that change show in all the places where it was used?

A-hah! The bananas and apples analogy could be very useful, indeed! So to be sure I understand, I could have one map layer that shows hotels. I would make that a non-layered map SO THAT I could bring each hotel’s Marker Map onto that layer. I could then do another layered map the same, but include restaurants. I could even do a 3rd that same way for shopping. I could have three posts, one for each service, and only those markers would show. Or I could have a Grand Map that sucks in all three of those layers together so it could show all the hotels, all the restaurants and all the stores. Yes? And I could use those three layered maps simultaneously in various posts, yes? (Sorry for redundant, but I’m learning to recite things back to avoid misunderstandings).

Re the hover, were you saying there might be a way to achieve that through a developer? Or there might be a way that would have to be built in by you but doesn’t have high priority at the moment?

The street view is highly desirable, for sure. The better choice of the two for priorities, but I’m still wanting to know if you meant yes, there might be a way for an independent developer to bend things so I can get hover OR if you meant there might be a way for you to do it on some future update.

Yup, I did create a multi-layer map I think. So what’s that used for? (The plot thickens).

Where do I test the pro plugin on a local host installation? I’d like to try just a couple of things before considering starting a 30-day trial.

BIGGIE question: If I create 2 single Marker Maps, one for “Place A” and one for “Place B” and fill in info for their popups… can I use just the single map for each place by itself in a post that’s only about that one place. But then ALSO use each of those same two Marker Maps in a 3rd post that talks about both of them? In other words, can one Marker Map be double-used… both on its own in one post, and simultaneously as one of several Markers that would show up on a layered map in another post?

ANOTHER BIGGIE QUESTION: Do you have plans to make the pop-ups appear via mouseover-hover so the end user doesn’t have to click on each marker OR, alternatively, have her screen be cluttered by multiple pop-ups that are default-shown? If yes, when would that be useable via update? Alternatively, is that something that an average developer can tweak to make it appear on hover, then disappear when the mouse is moved away?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Robert–
I was able to change the default locations as per your directions, thanks!

I’m now trying to create a “layer map.” I see no choice for Layered Map. So is that the same as “Add a layer”? If so, I’ve created a Daytrip layer map. However the Marker Maps I want to add to it show this daytrip layer but it’s greyed out and can’t be selected. Only “Unassigned Layer” shows. And on the Layer Map, even though I’ve put a checkmark in “Show Markers,” none show. How do I connect the two?

Also, I need to know if I create a single marker map showing just one location, can that location’s Marker Map be used independently AS WELL AS being able to use it in a layered map?

Note: I am using Lite version for this initial evaluation, I have not started 30-day trial period for Pro version until I see whether this is going to be too cumbersome. Hopefully it won’t be. ??

Sorry, what do you mean “use my browser to inspect…”? I haven’t made css changes but if you can tell me where to go, I can look at it and see if I can figure out where the entry is and what to change. And make careful notes of what I did just in case. ??

ARG! I am SOOOO sorry!! (hanging my head in serious shame)

I have been sitting here plugging in color changes under “Add New Category” on Screen Left (Events/Events Categories). I finally moused over the category inside the grid that I’m trying to talk to instead of just clicking a checkmark into its box. And “Edit” appeared. I went there, and sure enough, that’s where my color box is. I was using the wrong. dang. box.
My sincerest apologies for wasting your time on this. Color is changed. Sheeesh!
