I don’t have that problem – after updating to 5.2.4 the media library still works normally.

At last I found the courage (after having made backups of course!!) to upgrade to WordPress 5.0.3 and the Classic Editor plugin. Thank God, qTranslate-X still works perfectly … alles im Grünen ??

In the description of the Classic Editor plugin, it is said that it will be developed and supported at least until 2022.

I will probably not do anything until sometime in January, as I have not yet updated to WP 5.0. I get the impression that you are using the new standard editor, also called Gutenberg – is that so? If so, I would download and activate the “Classic Editor” plugin instead. It at least looks exactly like the well-know editor from earlier versions.

Thanks for your quick response. Do you mean install Classic Editor before qtranslate-x? If it only works on this condition, it would be of no help since I have used qtranslate-x on this site for years.

However, my qTranslateX is still soldiering on also with WP 4.9.4 without problems.

I would be surprised if your problem is caused by WP 4.9.4, since I understand that this version only has one change from the previous version. My website works perfectly also with WP 4.9.4.

Thanks again. Since neither the ALT texts for the images nor slug translation are not important for my website, I will seemingly have to deal with the difficulty of choosing between WPML and WP Multilang. That’s what we call a luxury problem, however – I already sleep better at night ??

For the time being I will hang around and see what happens with future versions of WordPress, since I have disabled the automatic update function.

Thanks for the suggestions, @weigertj! I have been concerned about the unstable situation for some time, so I am glad to hear that there are alternatives. I looked at WP Multilang and they even have a guide for migration from qTranslate-X included.
Is it also possible to migrate to WPML, or did you have to start anew?

Now I’ve reverted to WordPress 4.4.2, drawing a sigh of relief… I don’t like losing business because potential customers cannot read the menu.

I have exactly the same issue. Everything works fine but the menus are only shown in the first language no matter what.

I seem to recall that the menu titles used to be in the format “[:DA]Danish[:EN]English[:DE]German”, but even if I manually enter titles like this, they disappear after sving the menu and it has no effect.
