In reply to: DB Backup folder visible to the publicmmm, I’m afraid this issue is not resolved after all ??
Although moving the htaccess.txt file to the backup-db folder and re naming it to .htaccess worked fine on one of my sites, it is not working on another.
The blog runs version 2.8 of WP and is installed in a sub directory of the site. And yes the file name is definitely correct, i copied it across from my PC using the very same file i had saved to my other sites backup-db folder which worked perfectly (as stated in my post above).

In reply to: DB Backup folder visible to the publicHi
I just thought I’d add that i had the same problem some mentioned here where the /backup-db folder was inaccessible to me with my ftp client.
In order to get the htaccess.txt file (re named to .htaccess) in the /backup-db folder and in doing so to get rig of the annoying message in WP admin I simply created a new folder on my computer called backup-db and put the .htaccess file within it (since our pcs won’t show the .txt end of the file name you’ll need to change the name while it’s still in the /wp-content/plugins/wp-dbmanager folder with your FTP client before you download it to your pc), I then deleted the /backup-db folder with my FTP client (while the plugin was deactivated)and uploaded the pre prepared folder on my PC to the /wp-content folder.
After doing this once i had the plugin re activated i no longer got the annoy message in my admin ??
Hope this helps others

In reply to: [Plugin: Global Translator] Pagination returns 404Hi helton
That’s interesting.
I’ve just tried to run WP super cache with Global translator for the first time and the result was that all my translated pages returned a there’s nothing here page ??
Once i uninstalled WP super cache, after a few minutes the pages started working again.
Anyone have any ideas as to why that might be happening?
I know that the creator of Global Translator said at one point that he has WP super cache running alongside Global Translator with out a problem.
I’m running WP V2.7 on Linux hosting with PHP5.
Thanks

In reply to: [Plugin: Global Translator] Javacrip links getting broken!UPDATE!!
Great job Davide ??
Just installed the latest version 9.1 and have been checking out some new pages and have found a load of them now working ?? I guess somewhere in the last few updates (i’ve been pretty quick to update) it was fixed ??
However I have found some pages that show the correct destination URL with the # at the end, but when you click the link the # actually gets put in the address bar and so the java scrip doesn’t work. Still hopefully this is just an error from one of the recent plugin versions and not the most recent version and so when all the pages are re translated their be fine.
I’ll keep this topic updated.
Once again, great work on a truly great plugin Davide.
grazie

In reply to: Requires signup to a commercial service?whooami no i can’t say 100% for sure, but like i said i’ve seen no evidence of it, the email i currently use with them was getting no spam before i signed up and it has continued to get no spam.
All i can tell you is what i do know, they’ve helped me out when i had problems and continued to support their plugins making them better with each upgrade while continuing to develop new ones.
Yes at the end of the day what i said is my opinion, but that opinion is based on my expirience so far of them, take it for what it’s worth.

In reply to: [Plugin: Global Translator] Global translator blockedJust a little update ??
I have been having bans here and there from google (or at least the request for page translation not going through), but increasing the amount of time between translations seems to help.
Still the end result is that the sites are getting translated over time which is the important thing. I’m guessing that once the sites are totally translated (i have it set to not re translate pages again in the future) and only need the translation of new pages this won’t be an issue anymore:)

In reply to: Requires signup to a commercial service? In reply to Otto42’s last posts about the plugin not being usefull:
That may have been true when you posted, but now the plugin has reporting built in that shows you useful info like whether or not each ping service worked when pinged, in a nice and clear color coded way. Personally with so many services/urls not working any more, i find the plugin worth while just for this.
In regards to the registration:
I’ve already mentioned this before, but in short, i have no problem with it, there plugins are more than worth it (especially some of there other plugins) and if you don’t want to stay subscribed you can just unsubscribe, it really isn’t difficult ??
In fact I’d go as far to say that i’m glad they do it, because this helps them build their business and so they can spend more time making and supporting good quality plugins that i can use. They have to make a living and if their plugins don’t make money for them, there’s only so much free time they can spend on their support and development! A free plugin that also allows the publisher to make money is really the best of both worlds for a pluging user in my mind ?? But well that’s just the way my mind works ?? ??
Also in regards to Spam:
For starters if you agree to someone’s newsletter, than what they sand you is not Spam PERIOD.
Secondly, they don’t send out all that many emails and quite often when they do it’s about updates to there free plugins. Yes they do promote there paid plugins and sometimes other peoples software and services/products, but so far from what i’ve seen it’s been good stuff if you’re interested in that kind of stuff. But seriously you can just unsubscribe if you decide there emails don’t have nay value to you, i personally haven’t been sent anything from them yet that has made me want to unsubscribe, but that’s just me.
Also in regards to the concern over them giving your email address to other people, i really don’t think they’d do that, it just wouldn’t be worth it for the bad name they’d eventually end up with because of it, their newsletter is worth money to them and their not going to do any thing to hurt that, plus i’ve seen no evidence of it since i’ve been subscribed.
Sorry for the long post, i never meant to write this much ??
Oh and sorry about the use of so many smileys, it’s just my style lol

In reply to: Call to ban MaxBlogPress pluginsI’m sorry, but to Call to ban MaxBlogPress plugins because of this is totally unfair. These guys make great plugins for free, seriously you can pay for far worse plugins. To expect people to do this stuff totally for free is just ignorant especially as these plugins are mostly aimed at people who blog to make money! You want to make money from blogging, but don’t expect the people who programed your plugins to make any money?
As for Tzetze not being able to unsubscribe, that must have been some kind of error at the time, these guys aren’t spamers.
I use most of their plugins and have no problem receiving their newsletter, it’s more than a far exchange.

In reply to: [Plugin: Global Translator] Footer not being renderedI’ve also found the plugin leaves the footer blank on translated pages.

I also have the Permanlink Redirect plugin installed (Latest Version) But i’m not having any problems with it at all. I didn’t have to change any of it’s settings ??
I also had to extend the time between translations, I do still get the occasional warning from google but it’s working most of the time ?? Once it has the whole blog translated i don’t suppose we’ll have these problems again, unless of cause we’re publishing a lot of content like every 5 mins ??

In reply to: [Plugin: Global Translator] Global translator blockedAre you using the newest version 1.0.6? Google did introduce a ban that the athour bypassed.
Also how big is your blog? How much traffic? Have you tried bringing the number of seconds between translation up?
So far i haven’t had any problems on my 2 WP2.6.2 installs, although i haven’t had it operational all that long yet. Still it has done close to 100 translations on one of the blogs all own with out problems.

In reply to: [Plugin: Global Translator] Not work for WP 2.6.1I’ve installed the plugin on 2 different WP2.6.2 blogs each with different templates and so far it’s working well.
I had the same problem you had with one of my blogs, to fix it you simply have to do as it says and make the global-translator plugin folder in your WP install writable and readable.
To do this you will need to use your FTP program to navigate to your WP plugins folder and from there select the global-translator folder. By right clicking this folder you should be able to get access to properties and from there you can type 666 which will make the folder writable and readable. You may also have to do the same for all the files inside the directory separately.
If 666 doesn’t work try 777.
Note: all FTP programs are slightly different so you may find the options for changing read and write access to be somewhere else in the app.
I hope that helps
