I’ve been playing around with the style sheet in my ‘sandbox’ all morning. I’ve changed all the following, without effect:
widened the page width from 730 to 830
narrowed content width from 480 to 380; sidebar width from 230 to 150; I even narrowed the sidebar search width from 130 to 100.

None of the above changes shifted the sidebar to the proper location.

If the theme is ‘out-of-the-box’ shouldn’t it be placing the side bar correctly, no matter what’s in my posts?

Also keep in mind that it’s working correctly at the individual pages, but not on the home page..

OK, thanks, I got the image to appear by moving it directly into the ‘uploads’ directory–

(any reason why the directory ‘sideimages’ I created wouldn’t work?)

moshu — so far it seem that I’m the second apprentice to the third assistant of the ‘webmaster’ of my blog.

Following directions at W3Schools.com I used the suggested html code in sidebar.php, and the alt text appears, but not the image.

I created the directory ‘sideimages’ and put the image there. Here’s the code I used:

<img src=”https://www.jayjerome.com/wp-content/uploads/sideimages/donaflor.png&#8221; alt=”Dona Flor” width=”100″ height=”200″>

The image file donaflor.png is where it’s supposed to be (I checked it with my FTP program, which allows me to view it, and it’s OK).

Am I using the wrong protocol for the path? The FTP program shows my directory tree as: root/jayjerome.com/ etc… do I have to include that ‘root’ in the src?

What am I missing?

If you’re saying it’s relatively uncomplicated to manually edit the sidebar.php (just adding or subtracting the name and location of the graphic files) that would be a satisfactory solution.

Assuming, that is, you can provide or direct me to the basic code I need to put in the sidebar.php

moshu — thanks for the link. I downloaded the CG-Amazon files and unzipped them. But the Installation Instructions look intimidating.

I just want to be able to put images (of book covers) with a caption under them, in a sidebar. What’s the easiest way to do that?

Thanks for the link, moshu — but I had already looked there, and tried the only plug-in under the multi-media catagory: CoolPlayer — which looked good (numerous media types: streaming video, MIDI and WAV and MPEG, etc) but after I uploaded it to my plugin directory and activated it, nothing showed to indicate it was installed — and because the designer’s homepage is written in Japanese, I’m unable to troubleshoot the problem.

Bottom line, I wasted two hours playing with it, so before I waste too many more grains of sand on my finite clock, I was hoping someone had a positive recommendation for any of the other plug-ins at the codex page you posted, something that works…

what’s the worst that can happen if I paste in those unmatched tags — ?? even if it’s grusome, be specific — i can take it… i watched nearly two full episodes of The O.C. on Fox Fox last season — and survived that… so give me your best shot…

Well, I tried it, and there was one small problem (I didn’t default the word font to match the theme font, easily fixable) but aside from that, it worked fine…

Anything else to worry about using it, besides having a paragraph trashed? Lost files? Crashes? Irate purists breaking into my house and drinking my favorite tequilla?

everything fixed — I found a one-click solution at DreamHost … it backs up, keeps the right defaults, and took about two minutes overall…

apologies, yosemite… I didn’t realize I had to click both the drop down and the change button — I assumed it was an automatic process after the first click…
