    Thanks Jack,

I don’t believe it does. I can’t locate it on the ftp. Do you know where it might be living? I’m working in WordPress 4.0.1

    UPDATE:

I deleted the .htaccess file from server and site is working again which is great…

However, I didn’t solve original permalink issue.

I would like it to be “examplesite.com/page”
    It is currently “examplesite.com/index.php/page”

I tried changing this in WordPress under Settings>Permalink. I had to use Custom Structure option and had /%postname%/ in the box.

I still receive this error :
“If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.”

I tried copying and pasting the code that was provided into a .htaccess file and uploading it to the root folder of my site in wordpress but it crashed my site again… am I missing something??

    Thanks Tara,

    I have read : https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress_Locally_on_Your_Mac_With_MAMP

Based on your response, I am guessing I need to instal a localhost?

No other options? Will a localhost site be accessible by the client if I provide them a direct url? Also, if I shut my computer off that the localhost is installed on, will that staging site not be accessible by others?
