This theme does work with buddypress well. If you had a problem with the theme install, this should have never messed with buddypress its self.
if you can please explain how you installed the theme or what plugins you had that caused you to blow up buddypress we would love to hear the details so this does not happen again or, help you fix the issues at hand.

are you sure the theme is set to 1.123?
if so can you share a link so I can take a look and offer ideas on a fix?

Custom Community was updated to 1.123 to fix problems like this.
Check your updates for the new version. (updated today)

You can do this with normal css and over ride the font settings.

What font did you want to use?

You need to change the setting under theme settings / general / default homepage

find the listing for post listing style, change bubbles to default.

Place this in your css tab and change the font to the size you wish.
div.cc_slider ul.ui-tabs-nav li span {font-size: 13px;}

Can you post what the problem was?

featured images are set on a per post / page bases.
the slideshow can be controlled under theme settings / slideshow
the 3 last post images can be controlled under theme settings / general / default homepage “show last 3 posts”

If you create a new post, are the comments enabled on it?

if you are talking about the top line that has category and dates in it.
p.date{font-size:20px;}
Place this in your css tab.
If you mean really the tags in the post.
p.postmetadata{font-size:20px;}
