Hi there, great plugin, even if it takes a little getting used to.

One problem I had (with a completely fresh wordpress install with no other plugins/ themes installed) was that is was impossible to turn off the ban list, and when I manually edited the .htaccess file to remove the changes the BWPS dashboard still showed the relevant line (8.) as green instead of yellow. The only way I could get around this was to delete and reinstall the plugin. I’m not the only one to have had this problem either (see e.g. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-better-wp-security-better-wp-blocking-googlebot?replies=15#post-3906650 )

So, in addition to your proposed suggestions (which all sound great other than you not giving any free support), my suggestion would be to do something to fix that ??

This is an issue for some (myself included).

I’m not getting any emails (nor do I get them from the Better WP Security Plugin).

I think it may be something to do with our hosts server set-up.

I’m going to try using WP Mail SMTP plugin to see if this gets around the problem (it did so in the past with similar issues).

The plugin should only be active on the main site. Backups will contain a complete backup of the whole multisite install (all files and database tables from all sites).

Just for the sake of clarity, I assume by that you mean that is should NOT be network enabled?

Just installed and then enabled on main site?

Is this correct?

Thanks for this info. I also want to use both plugins. BWPS options that change .htaccess seem to break lots of thinks, so I’m opting to avoid enabling them.

Deactivating and reactivating didn’t change settings for me. But deleting and reinstalling did.

Oh, and one more thing. It appears that once you’ve enabled the banned default blacklist and added it, there is no way to disable this feature. That was the first thing I tried – before deactivating the plugin entirely – and once you disable the feature and save, it just shows as enabled again. I’ve tried this on my test site as well, and the same thing. No way to disable feature once enable.

I’ve noticed that too, on a completely clean install of wp and an up to date clean install of BWPS.

Also, if you go and manually change .htaccess to revert the changes, BWPS dashboard doesn’t pick that up and still thinks it is enabled (i.e. the line is still shown as green with no link next to it).

The only way I could get it to reset was to delete and reinstall BWPS

I guess I’ll look into trying WP Mail SMTP and see if that helps…

I have the same question.

I manually changed the id using phpmyadmin to edit the tables, but that led to some other issues.

Be good to hear from someone at Better WP Security about what is best practice in this regard when using a multisite

I got that problem after enabling banning users.

Using my ftp client to open and edit the content of my .htaccess file worked for me.

I started using https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/si-contact-form/ instead of Contact Form 7 because that does work with the nivo slider as used in https://templatic.com/news/news-flash-premium-wordpress-magazine-theme-templatic

I had this problem and found out that these things normally hide in plugin and themes files that aren’t touched during an update.

I re-installed my theme and plugins and now everything is working ok again.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me.

Most of my categories were converted, but some weren’t and now the convert categories page tell me I don’t have any to convert just as you describe.

In addition, there doesn’t seem to be anywhere in the dashboard that I can edit my tags that have been converted.

Some help with this would indeed be great! ??
