I went ahead and entered the settings into the database. It was the only way I could get this to work. Only I’m not sure it’s working.

As I mentioned — and I did try it again just now — I think WooCommerce is the problem. And I can’t disable it because this plugin requires it to function.

I used the plugin Health Check & Troubleshooting to disable every plugin except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration, and the problem persists: A 404 error when I try to save the settings.

Here’s the log file (paths and line numbers obfuscated):

Since I was able to enter the settings directly into the database, I’ll probably be OK without fixing this.

But how can I tell if the plugin is working?

And this takes me back to a more fundamental question that arose when I discovered the WooCommerce Google Tag Manager integration plugin: Why is this plugin needed? Does Google Analytics not already capture the data because of the embed code? Should I use the GTM plugin instead — or in addition? I took the basic GTM and GA4 LinkedIn courses, but it’s still opaque to me and I don’t think they talk about WooCommerce. Is there a resource that would spell all of this out?

    Thanks!

Hi, Dan — Sorry to bother you with this again. I’m trying to recreate what you did but can’t figure out how to specify USPS shipping for 2+ items. Would you mind sharing your example again? Thanks for your help!

Edit … making progress! : Here’s my demo page: https://demo.tablerateshipping.com/d/5702fd7124914be7b38e3fff78fb8acd/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wc-settings&tab=shipping&instance_id=2

I’ve created the shipping methods, flat rate for one item, USPS Priority Mail for 2+ items. But both shipping rates show up, even if though only one should apply.

    Thanks again.

Sorry, I was getting frustrated at getting no response while my client was expecting some sort of update.

Since things have continued to seem OK with my previous kludge, I tried disabling the posts page completely:

    Select Appearance > Customize.
Select Static Front Page > Posts page > —Select— [First item on the list, essentially not selecting any actual page.]

The blog still seems to be working.

I don’t consider this resolved because I do not understand why selecting no blog page would make the blog page function properly. If anyone can shed some light, I’d appreciate it.

    Thanks.

So I’ve done a kludgy workaround, which I don’t consider a fix because I don’t know what the implications are.* I created a new page that I think is identical to the blog page. I designated it as the Posts Page. Now when you click the Blogs link at the top of the page, the “blog” that shows up is correct. HOWEVER, that is not the Posts Page. I don’t know what it is. If you go to the Posts Page, it has the same formatting problem that I started out with.

    Any thoughts??

*I made the permalink for the new page almost identical to that of the original (just added an “s” to “blog”) so if the page shows up somewhere unintentionally it won’t be obvious that it’s a test. The permalinks are:

    New Posts Page

    Original page
    https://www.grassrootsgrantmakers.org/blog

One other thought: I can see the correct page when I go into Pages > Edit Page. When I preview the page, I see the correct content. I restored to a previous version in case that might help. (The page had not been updated in four months, so it wasn’t a recent change there that caused the problem.) When I preview the page from the blog, it has the correct content. But the live site still shows the wrong content.

Could the problem be related to this:

Posts page is inheriting template from Front Page

What’s appearing is different from the home page template but more like it than the correct blog page. Is there a way to check or specify what template the blog uses?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, Tara.

I don’t think there are any caching plugins. I’ve put a list below.

Sorry I don’t know what an op cache or content network cache is and don’t have access to the server.

I did reset my browser cache.

The thing is the content displayed on that page right now is not old content and was never displayed there, so I doubt it could be a caching issue.

It seems to me as if it has to be a WordPress glitch. ???
