it was pointless to change the admin of wordpress, this is a worse move than going from 2.3 to 2.5 They should have left the damned thing alone and worked on functional improvements rather than giving it a slick ass microsoft improvement where you make it shiny and pretty while destroying everything good about the previous version. new doesn’t equal better.

I strongly disagree, and here is why: The WP2.5 layout was good. It did have its problems though. It had such a huge header that it was impossible to fit anything on one page. Going from page to page was a huge pain in the rear and it was pathetic that the Dashboard served no purpose. I think the new WP2.7 layout will make the dashboard more useful, cut back on the amount of scroll and give more allowance to the screen (full screen width) and make going to subpages way faster. There will definitely be some things people won’t like and they will eventually be changed (WP 2.8 will be here eventually).

Just look at it this way: Most would rather use 2.7 than <2.3 — it is definitely an improvement.

P.S. If X amount of people hate it enough, I am sure some plugin developer will create a CSS hack to make it go back (somehow…)

Yes, the CSS in the hello dolly file is using the position: absolute;, so it needs to be changed to the correct top: ??px and right: ??px.

Hey there,

Make sure that your files on your localhost have the correct permissions to be edited by WordPress.

I personally have been using trunk ever since 2.6 came out and I have had no problems like this.

This is looking REALLY great. It would be nice to see some content filling up that home page.

You may also consider using some pretty permalinks (options -> permalinks) to make things a little more pretty. ??

The third header link is WAY too long–any way you could shorten that? Other than that it is looking pretty good. ??

I know someone who was also having this same problem and we had to switch to another plugin so he could have his form. Does 1.8 fix this, or do we need to change something with the .htaccess files?

Try putting some plugins on bbPress. It won’t have nearly the hundreds of features as phpBB, but it integrates simply.

So does Subscribe to Comments work on WP 2.6? The plugin page says it doesn’t, but I have seen the plugin on other websites that are up-to-date. Is the plugin page out of date, or does it not completely work on the newer versions of WordPress?

You may want to try to add a list of categories or tags on the main page. That will add to it. If you make the calendar look like it would on a cork board, that would look amazing too. ??
