It sounds like you need to move your vbulliten forum to a subfolder. You can’t install wp and your furum both in the root.

You could also create a subdomain forums and move your forum installation there.

Generally just your domain name.

Make sure you rename your wp-content folder to wp-contentxxx or something so it won’t be written over by the upgrade. I rename the .htaccess and wp-config files too so they won’t be written over.

Remember to rename them banck to normal when you are done.

If you don’t care about what’s in your root folder it’s really easy to just copy all folders fron the folder wo was installd and just move them into the root.

Yhe multiple site question seems a little confusing to me. It seems lie you are trying to install wp over the onstallation using fantastico or something.

If you want the second site setup on it’s own domain then setup anew domain on your server and install. Or you can setup a subdomain and install it there. I suppose that you could also install into a new directory. Just make sure you create a new db too.

I personally would just use wpmu.

It sounds like you want to keep your existing site running not using wp to run your entire site.

If this is the case install wp in it’s own folder.

I believe that esmi is right with the reseting the plugin folder link that he provided.

However, if you aren’t technical you may have on your computer the themes and plugins that you uploaded to wp. Or, perhaps you remember which ones they were. Reinstall them and you may be able to login.

One other option that I have experienced before. Sometimes wp may not unzip correctly due to various reasons. Try downloading wp again, unzipping and wqriting over the files.

If all else fails I can fix it for you?

To keep theme testing simple why not just install another copy of wp with a different domain. It’s good to do since you will likely always be testing out plugins, thems and features. This way you aren’t affecting your live site.

I can do an install for you. Just contact me through my website on this forum,. I used to ale=ways find it difficult to follow installation instructions. NOw it’s second nature but I remember when it was difficult for me.

I can give it a shot for you. It seems like everything should be fine but it’s sometimes hard for people in the forums to notice everything.

There should be no need to run an upgrade.

If you have your original wp-contents folder and your original wp-config.php file that is all you need. Back up anything else you may need in there and just write over everything.

Just delete wp-admin and wp-includes folder and move all files over.

It may be too late to do this since you ran an upgrade but I am not sure.

I think it’s just admin.php that he should be referring too. I don’t believe that there is a wp-admin.phbp.

admin.php is in the wp-admin folder.

I know what it was like when things like .htaccess sounded like chinese.

Unless it’s new in the new since 2.5 it’s never been case sensitive. You may try replacing the registration file from an older version. Don’t forget to backup original stuff first.

Sounds like a corrupt file. Try again downloading tar.gz file.

Use win-scp just search google for it. It’s an ftp program that is free that easily lets you untar (unzip) files on your server. It’s a great ftp client. It’s under custom commands.
