In reply to: [WP eCommerce] [Plugin: WP e-Commerce] Awful Plugin/ Awful SupportCompletely agree with the OP – this plugin is horrible. The documentation runs you in a loop and every second link is broken.
The forum is full of smartarses with typical answers like “have you googled it?”. There are so many things wrong with this plugin – they should just start again.
Justin, you’re obviously quite good with PHP – you need to be with this plugin because it’s a hack. That might suit you, but defeats the purpose for the masses, surely.

In reply to: Request: Custom fields for categoriesNo, then this isn’t going to help you. I’d email that site. I’ve never seen WP output something like ?genre=baseball before!
Forum: Requests and Feedback
In reply to: Request: Custom fields for categoriesAs far as I can tell, with the current WP, that’s not going to be possible.
Here’s a few ways that I would do it:
1. Why have a category called “Genre” ? Just have “Romance” as your category. Easy. You could set up a page called “Genre” if you wanted, then link posts there with a plugin like this: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/list-category-posts/
2. Have categories called “Genre” and sub-categories “Romance”, etc. Then call your sub-categories.
3. Make “Genre” your category and tag posts with “Romance”. Then call the tag.

In reply to: post URL redirecting to different postI did a header check and the post is moved permanently. A 301 redirect. Very odd.
Try updating the URL of that post through your admin and then test.

In reply to: .htaccess – redirectYou can do this through your WP options – you don’t need to touch .htaccess.
Here’s how:
1. Remove the code you’ve added to .htaccess.
2. Make sure the htaccess file is writable (permissions: 777).
3. Log in to WP and navigate to Settings > General. Where it says “wp location” and “wp url” (or similar), add the www.
4. It’ll log you out. Log back in and test it.
If you can’t log in, try this tutorial:

In reply to: Someone registered as a user on my wordpress blog – possible hacker? They’re using a bot to directly access your signup page – even if it’s not linked from your site, they search for the standard location of that script. The comment spam bots do the same thing.
Their looking for, I imagine, a blog that has a setting so that new registrations are instantly editors / admins. Then they’ll spam like crazy.
Just remove the option that readers can subscribe.

In reply to: Can’t get into my siteKen, if you’ve removed all plugins and it’s still not working then there it’s one of three things:
1. The theme is broken.
2. The theme isn’t compatible with your WP version.
3. The theme hasn’t been fully uploaded or has been uploaded in the wrong way (are all the theme files one click away from the theme directory?)If not any of those, then your WP install may have some issues. Delete the theme, upload the default theme and try it all again.

In reply to: Error establishing a database connectionIf your host is saying nothing is wrong, then something has changed on your site itself.
Did you add any more plugins? Remove these from the server and retest.
For your own piece of mind, I’d back up the database through cPanel.
