There’s a few things to check. First, check your .htaccess file. If you see some rules such as “deny from all”, etc., you will want to comment them out. If all else fails with it, try renaming the .htaccess file to something like .htaccess.old which will make it inactive.
The second thing to check is your file permissions. Depending on your server configuration, this should be something like 755 or 644. I recommend 644.

In reply to: I've Lost My Website! This article should get you started in the right direction in using FTP:

Some information on the specific settings you will use will be specific to InMotion Hosting, but the guide does do a good job in explaining what FTP is and how to access it.
From taking a look at the path that it is giving you, it looks like your host might use cPanel to manage your information as most hosts now do. It might be easier to do this in the File Manager of cPanel as well if it is available to you. More information on that can be found here:

In reply to: How to restore accidental delete of my websiteMy best guess is that you deleted your files and not your database. If you or your host does not have a backup, it would be hard to get any themes, plugins, or any custom modifications back, but your post and settings should at least be within your database.

You can recover from this by uploading the stock WordPress file and then configuring your WordPress admin to connect to your existing database through your wp-config.php file. You will also want to copy any theme or plugin content to the wp-content directory as well. After doing that, you might need a bit more tweaking, but that should get you going in the right direction.
Be sure to keep backups of all of your files at all times as well just in case something goes wrong. I do know that Hostgator uses cPanel in which you could generate a cPanel backup whenever you make changes to be sure that you have a copy in case something goes wrong. I’m not sure about their specific steps to do so, but it should be something similar to the article that we have available on our site:

In reply to: My Site is GoneAs your permalinks will directly effect how your browser takes you to individual pages, it can toss you to an incorrect location. To get everything to appear correctly, try doing a .htaccess that directs the domain to localhost.
From there, you can then change it back to anything you want once you get in.

In reply to: Invalid User/Forgot Password – Cannot access site at homeMy best guess is that your browser is sending some kind of incorrect data to the site. Try clearing your browser cache. We, at InMotion Hosting, have an article on how to do so:

Another possibility could be some sort of security plugin that you might have within your WordPress installation. Try also disabling any security plugins that you may have active to further troubleshoot.
