Update: For some reason this was happening because of me using a Custom register form instead of the Default one. I resaved it and updated the page and now the problem is solved but maybe you should take a look why this might have happened. Thank you.

Thanks for answering! Yeah I did enable them and unfortunately the problem still persists. When I preview the .po file I see the weird characters in my text editor, I am not sure if this helps but just giving you some more information.
