P?r,
Good news – thanks for letting me know
OK, thanks Jamie. Will do.
Thank you Michael. I used my user role editor plugin as you suggested and that worked fine.
The role ID of my WordPress administrator role was somehow changed possibly by a plugin. It was first detected by the author of the User Role Editor plugin when I had some problems with that. Nothing has changed for a long time though to my knowledge. It could be that I just haven’t gone to the AIOSP settings for a long time.
Thanks again for the quick resolution.
Matt R & all,
I deactivated Wordfence 6.1.2 and the dashboard returned to as expected for an Administrator role account.
I then installed 6.1.3 and all still looks fine.
/wp-admin/options.php still gives me a page of info headed “All Settings”.
/wp-admin/network/ now gives me “Multisite support is not enabled” which is true. Thanks to all who posted and Wordfence for quick action.

I have similar (but not identical) permissions problems. They seemed to coincide with the update of Wordfence to 6.1.2. I do have the User Role Editor plugin but that was last updated 17 March and I haven’t seen any problems since then until now.
/wp-admin/options.php gives me a page of info headed “All Settings”.
/wp-admin/network/ gives me “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”.At the top of the dashboard I see the message “WordPress 4.5 is available! Please notify the site administrator” when I’m logged in with either of my Administrator accounts.
I can create a new user with Administrator role although none of the solutions here has worked for me.
Can I just confirm that when we’re talking about editing users here we’re referring to the “Edit User” screen, changing the Role (in some cases) then hitting “Update User”?
I do have Wordfence 6.0.25 installed on another site. To revert can I just copy the plugins/wordfence folder from that over the top of the same folder of the site with Wordfence 6.1.2?
Any help appreciated – thanks!
Hi Vladimir,
I repeated my test with 4.24 and all worked perfectly with no errors.
Thank you for fixing this.
Best wishes,
JimMatt,
Many thanks for your very helpful reply. Will try your suggestions.
Best wishes,
Jim..just to add I’m using latest version of User Role Editor – 4.23.2
OK – thanks Jeremy.
So any Jetpack code remains on the pages until Jetpack is disconnected or the Jetpack plugin is deactivated. When that happens, any Jetpack code is stripped from the pages. Jetpack plugin settings though are saved until the plugin is deleted, which is why Jetpack can be disconnected then reconnected without having to re-enter settings. Is that about right?

In reply to: [User Role Editor] plugin not seen in Installed PluginsHi Vladimir,
Thanks for the explanation. I wonder when / why the role ID was changed /renamed from ‘administrator’ to ‘ndp-administrator’. I didn’t choose to do so.
Anyway, I tried your script with the modification you suggested. I’ve now managed to change some capabilities and your plugin is working as I hoped. I’m very happy!
Many thanks,
JimOK – understood. Thanks.

In reply to: [User Role Editor] plugin not seen in Installed PluginsHi Vladimir,
Thanks for the tip – I will try this. Could you explain to me what the first string in the field below represents? Why do you assume it will be ‘administrator’ and what may have caused mine to be changed to ‘ndp-administrator’.
a:5:{s:17:”ndp_administrator”;a:2:{s:4:”name”;s:13:”Administrator”;s:12:”capabilities”;a:62:
…I’ve had a look around and posted to another forum but haven’t found an explanation yet.
Thanks for your help,

In reply to: [User Role Editor] plugin not seen in Installed PluginsHi Vladimir,
Did you have a chance to look at my last message?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

In reply to: [User Role Editor] plugin not seen in Installed PluginsI see that you login with user role ‘ndp_administrator’.
Hmmm – I don’t know where that role has come from. I have only ever set up users to have WP in-built roles.
URE adds its own capabilities (as a script I offered to you) to the ‘administrator’ role only.
Well I don’t seem able to create a user which shows as simply administrator role in the database. When I create a user with role of Administrator in the WP backend it comes out as ndp_administrator in the database. Don’t know why. I tried changing another user from Subscriber to Administrator in the WP backend and got the message “You don’t have permissions to edit this user”. When I looked at the Users list however they _had_ been given the Administrator role (but still shows as ndp_administrator in the database). All very puzzling to me looking at WP permissions for the first time!
From the database query it looks as though ndp-administrator role includes the administrator role though – is that right? But that’s not good enough for User Role Editor?
Can you suggest how I might create a user with administrator role rather than ndp-administrator or maybe suggest something else? Would it help to restore the backup (including database) I made before installing your script in the mu-plugins folder?
Thanks for your time,

In reply to: [User Role Editor] plugin not seen in Installed PluginsVladimir,
I’ve tried to post the SQL query results a number of times, always enclosing them in code tags. But the post does not seem to get through. Do you have an alternative email address I can send to?
Thanks,
Jim
