In reply to: Multiple Installation – Same Database Or Different? Can anyone help me with the above question? How do I configure index.php to be a default file? I need to do this so that I can have another installation of wordpress on another database (on my local computer)

In reply to: Multiple Installation – Same Database Or Different?Could you tell me how I would go about configuring index.php to be a default file? If you feel that’s not an appropriate question for this forum, would you have any suggestions of how/where I would go to find the required information?
Thank you for your help

In reply to: Multiple Installation – Same Database Or Different?Handysolo – you were right. The wp-config.php had not been edited. thankyou for spotting that. I have now amended it by changing the database name in the wp-config.php to wordpress two.
as a result when I enter https://localhost/wordpresstwo/ into the browser, it now brings up a page showing the index details of wordpresstwo – name, last modified, size, parent directory etc
But when I enter https://localhost/wordpresstwo/wp-admin/install.php I am still getting a 404 error.any suggestions what I’m overlooking?
thankyou for your helpForum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Multiple Installation – Same Database Or Different?Yes, I have created all my files in my wordpresstwo folder structure but every time I try and open it with my browser, it keeps saying wordpress is already installed – it is referring to my first installation for my first web area/database. so I’m stuck

In reply to: Multiple Installation – Same Database Or Different? If I did decide to to go with multiple databases on my local host rather just 1 single database how would I go about creating a separate mysql database on my local host?
I already have xampp, and have got 1 database set up – I used phpmyadmin. I tried to set up a second database, following the instructions from codex, but I did not get anywhere.
I went into phpmyadmin and created a new database and called it wordpresstwo. I did not create any tables as I believe the wordpress installation would do that. However whenever I tried to call it up on the browser “https://localhost/wordpresstwo/wp-admin/install.php” I keep getting a 404 error messageI just haven’t got a clue how to set up a second database – read everything available to instruct me but must be doing something wrong.
Anyhelp would be much appreciated

In reply to: Multiple Installation – Same Database Or Different?I was always leaning towards the option of having all my wordpress installs on one database because, as you say, that is the easier option. However, I wasn’t sure if there were any drawbacks/disadvantages that I ought to be aware of if I choose to go with that option – that’s why I wanted to sound out opinion before going ahead.

In reply to: Multiple Installation – Same Database Or Different?Yes, I saw it before I posted. Although it tells you how to do the processes, it does not make any recommendations as to which is the better option (multiple local databases for your blogs or 1 single local database for all your blogs) and so I am still undecided as to which option to go with – I was wondering if anyone knew the pros and cons of each option

In reply to: Internet Explorer won’t Access Local HostI went through the list you gave and it was port 80 that was causing the problem – it was not open so I have now opened it (after looking up what port 80 meant!) and it seems to have done the trick.
Much thanks for your help
