fyi we created a new testing site with a different theme and never saw this issue again. i wonder if there was some incompatibility with the theme we initially chose.

thanks Mike. right now the .htaccess page has no edits. just whatever wordpress does to it automatically when changing the permalink settings.

i agree we might have to create a new testing site and see if we work better out of the box. my teammate on this project tells me this worked when we started but i dont remember that it did

    thanks for the reply Mike.
I have followed those steps as well, and am getting “That page can’t be found” when going to the “/recordings” archive page. Before was getting the same message when going to the “/sermons” archive page. That is why I decided to try to change to a “/recordings” archive page.

now that I have switched to the “/recordings” archive page I can get to a sermon’s page:
    “/recordings/9-29-2019-AM-Service” correctly.
that is an improvement because before changing to the “/recordings” archive page I also got the “That page can’t be found”when going to:
    “/sermons/9-29-2019-AM-Service”
